Who You Will Work With
Research and Data Services (RDS) is a department of information professionals who specialize in secondary (desktop) research and work alongside Bain’s internal stakeholders to provide high quality results for our clients. We collaborate across Bain teams to support desktop research needs using subject matter knowledge and deep expertise in research sources.
You will work with colleagues based in different locations in a hybrid model. You will be reporting to supervisors based in [Asia Pacific]. Working as part of an APAC/global team, throughout your career, you will receive coaching and participate in various training programs.
Regular presence at weekly base in the office is required for this role.
Position Summary
This is an individual contributor able to deliver on short to medium-term projects and manage own deliverables with limited oversight from supervisor.This role is to establish their affiliation in certain practice areas (e.g. Consumer Products/Retail, Technology/Media/Telecoms, Financial Services, ESG etc.) or subject matters (e.g. company financials, deals, macro data etc.), and have specialized knowledge of relevant research resources.The role regularly works as part of project teams to support in research planning and execution, information management, training, and capture of research experience. This role participates in ongoing product and service evaluations, and resource development activities including their implementation.
Principal Accountabilities

Research (~75%)
Conduct business research utilizing desktop resources and business tools to deliver on short to medium-term projects with limited oversight from supervisor.Contribute as an active member of an Industry Team to support complex and specialized research, and should also be proficient in conducting general research in all areas of interest to Bain.Proactively work with customers to understand the project context and specific information needs Demonstrate knowledge and effective use of local, regional and global general and industry / capability specialized data sources and their applications.Deliver accurate, well-organized and comprehensive research solution and result.Develop regular relationship with internal stakeholder, solicit feedback on performed research and resolve issues.
Asset Building and others (~25%)
Support activities including processing orders and new acquisitions, cataloging and serials check-in, end-user system updates, tracking circulation of materials from the collection and ongoing maintenance of department assets.Participate in knowledge sharing, training, and relevant projects to continuously enhance skills alongside business growth.Participate in product and service evaluations and process / tool innovations, and contribute in implementation as appropriate.Conduct just-in-time and regular group training for researchers, consulting and consulting support staff. Build industry or subject matter expertise by supporting relevant projects, and attending different format of training and experience sharing.Participate in Research and Data Services marketing efforts.May lead small scale initiatives as assigned.May coach less experienced colleagues sometimes.
Qualifications

Essential:
Degree in Information Science or business from an accredited university, or equivalent higher education degree3 – 5 years of conducting business research in a fast-paced consulting, market research or other professional services or equivalent preferredFluent written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English requiredStrong organization, prioritization, time management and pressure management skillsEnthusiastic, dedicated, hardworking and committed to deliver results
Preferred:
Strong knowledge across a broad range of commercial, multi-industry, and economic topics to ensure a swift start in assigned affiliation areas at beginningExperience in using regular business research databases, e.g. Nikkei Telecon, SPEEDA, Factiva, LSEG/Refinitiv, S&P Capital IQ etc. as well as some industry specialized ones if possibleExperience in effectively working with diverse stakeholders and / or cross cultureExperience in proactively taking initiatives to enhance working efficiencyTraining and presentation skillsOpen-minded attitude and team approach, e.g. working on early morning shifts per business needs etc.An interest in the substance and commercial impact of Bain’s work
