The Opportunity:

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer to join our growing Search team. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, developing, and optimizing critical search infrastructure and features. You will work on challenging problems related to data indexing, query processing, relevance ranking, and overall search performance, directly impacting how our users discover and interact with our products/content.

This position is Hybrid in Toronto.

What You'll Do:

Design, develop, document and maintain robust and scalable solutions using PHP (Symfony framework). Work extensively with Elasticsearch Stack to build and optimize search indices, implement complex queries, and ensure high performance and availability. Collaborate with Product managers, UX designers, QA, DevOps, App Support and other engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver impactful features. Contribute to the continuous improvement of data ingestion pipelines, search relevance, performance, and user experience. Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code, adhering to best practices and coding standards. Participate in code reviews & mentor Jr developers · Actively participate in Scrum ceremonies Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to Rest API, search functionality and infrastructure. Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies in Search, AI, ML, Data Science and software engineering.

What You'll Bring:

8+ years of professional experience in web development, with a strong focus on backend systems in PHP in Symfony or similar frameworks Solid experience with Elasticsearch/OpenSearch & Elastic Stack, including index design, query optimization, and cluster management. Strong understanding of Software development (design patterns, REST, system design) Experience with relational databases and NoSQL databases. Experience with unit testing, caching, queuing, monitoring tools & cloud technologies. Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Bonus Points:

Understanding of search relevance algorithms and machine learning techniques applied to search such as embeddings, semantic search, vector/graph DB, NLP search, language detection and recommendation system. Experience with Python, Databricks, Datadog, Kubernetes & data science technologies.
