The Red Hat Experience Engineering (XE) Sustaining Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help lead a new team aimed at improving the long-term product experience of our Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) customers. In this role, you will work closely with Product Engineering to deliver on extended product maintenance work, including handling defects, bugs, and CVEs for OpenJDK in any extended life streams (ELS) of OpenJDK on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), RHEL ELS and Windows, focused on product development that goes beyond the normal 6 month maintenance phase of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) minor releases and OpenJDK. You'll be actively leading all aspects of OpenJDK maintenance on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). You will co-lead our patch review process, the development and execution of backports and test plans, and the creation of automation tools to improve the efficiency, flexibility, and quality of Red Hat’s patch delivery to customers.
What you will do
Work on OpenJDK updates for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and be responsible for the updates in the stable streamsBackport selected security and other bug fixes into the stable release streams and help with tracking of upstream patches for backportConfigure or backport tests, set up test environment, run tests, and verify fixes Help with the development of the tests and test frameworkHelp with development and integration efforts of the test environmentTroubleshoot any potential issues, collaborate with the engineering team on resolving themCollaborate with various teams (product engineering, quality engineering, program management, release engineering) in order to deliver updates in a timely manner and appropriate qualityParticipate in product engineering team meetingsWork with the upstream open source community on code reviews and project discussions
What you will bring
