About the Role: An experienced Coherent Designer/ Excel VBA Senior Developer is sought to join the team. A Coherent Designer/ Excel VBA Senior Developer is a skilled and versatile individual who ensures that all design elements, from overall aesthetics to functionality, work together to create a unified and effective product or experience. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing robust and efficient automation solutions using VBA within Microsoft Excel, Coherent Spark and other Office applications. The ideal candidate should possess deep expertise in VBA, Excel functions, data modeling, and best coding practices. This role requires collaborating closely with business stakeholders to translate their needs into customized and scalable solutions. This role requires a blend of technical prowess, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a commitment to optimizing processes and enhancing user productivity. 

Role & Responsibilities (include but not limited to): 

Design and Development:

Develop and maintain advanced custom business applications and solutions using Coherent Spark, VBA in Excel and MS Access.

Translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and viable solutions.

Develop and maintain Coherent, VBA applications and macros to automate tasks and streamline business processes.

Develop complex Spark workbooks able to handle Rating, Rules and Modeling needs of business and actuarial teams.

Create user-friendly interfaces and dashboards using VBA, including features like Pivot Tables, charts, and data visualization.

Enhance existing applications and build new solutions based on business needs.

Integrate Spark, Excel and VBA solutions with other applications and external data sources (e.g., SQL databases) via APIs, REST services, etc.

Optimization and Maintenance:

Optimize existing Coherent Spark, macros and scripts for improved performance and functionality, adhering to best coding practices.

Debug and troubleshoot Spark, VBA code and existing software to ensure optimal performance and resolve defects.

Reverse engineer and support legacy applications.

Perform database structure analysis (SQL Server and Oracle) and manipulate SQL for data and analytics needs.

Collaboration and Documentation:

Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, and End Users to gather requirements, understand their needs, and define project scope.

Develop test plans and software documentation to support code modifications and additions.

Create technical documentation for assigned deliverables and development processes to ensure maintainability.

Provide support and troubleshooting for existing solutions and train end-users on new applications and enhancements.

Actively participate in Agile project teams and methodologies (Scrum/Kanban).

Qualifications: 

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) is required.

1-3 years of design/development experience with Coherent Spark.

A minimum of 5-10 years of experience on a software delivery team, with a focus on developing and maintaining VBA solutions, is required.

Demonstrable expertise in VBA programming and its application within Excel and other Microsoft Office products is required.

A strong understanding of Excel functions, formulas, pivot tables, charts, and data visualization techniques is required.

Proficiency in developing stored procedures within MS Excel and MS Access VBA, and SQL proficiency, is required.

Familiarity with other programming languages like Python, C# or VB.NET, and experience working with .NET platforms are a plus.

Experience in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting applications within a team environment is required.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills are required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders are required.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment is required.

Working knowledge of Actuarial algorithms.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:  

Experience working in an P&C Insurance environment and familiarity with Insurance concepts.

Knowledge of specific database technologies like SQL Server, or Oracle.

Certifications such as Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) or Azure certifications (AZ-204, AZ-900).

Experience working with Coherent Spark Batch, On Demand, Subservices, XCalls and Testing Center.

For CA, NY, NJ or IL: The base salary range for this position is $116,000 - $158,750 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location. All offers include access to a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
