Position Overview:

We are looking for a Software Engineer who is passionate about storage solutions.As a Senior Software Engineer at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing by building and operating cloud-scale distributed storage powering internal and customer-facing services and products. You will become a key contributor to our storage product offerings, helping to create a cohesive interface for hypervisor storage and optimize storage class placement decisions.

What You’ll Do:

Platform & Kubernetes:

"Build and enhance Kubernetes-based platforms to deploy and manage storage services". This explicitly calls out that the storage services run on a platform layer (likely Kubernetes) and that the engineer will have responsibilities there, not just at the storage software layer.

Observability:

"Implement observability solutions (monitoring, logging, tracing) to ensure platform stability and performance." This makes it clear they’ll need to design and maintain visibility into the health of the system — which is critical for operating at scale. Key Metrics: "Observability coverage and actionable insights"
This frames observability as a measurable success metric, reinforcing it as a first-class responsibility. Storage Performance System Scalability Operational Efficiency Customer Satisfaction Code Quality What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean: 6+ years of experience developing, testing, and shipping well-engineered code (Go a plus!) Experience with observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK) and best practices" This makes the required observability skill explicit in the qualifications.6+ years of experience automating, operating, and troubleshooting production systems 2+ years of experience implementing a NFS solution is a plus. Strong preference for experience designing and architecting shared storage solutions at scale 3+ years of experience with Linux operating systems and familiarity with storage fundamentals Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) and service-oriented architectures 3+ years of experience leading discussions on architectures, implementations, design patterns, and processes with the ability to succinctly convey ideas to peers and mentees Familiarity with concurrency/parallelism models in a modern programming language Experience with gRPC, S3, and distributed storage systems such as Ceph 4+ years of experience designing, building, and operating network-distributed storage products in the enterprise or the cloud; experience building distributed block storage products is a plus Competency in virtualization storage stacks Why You’ll Like Working for DigitalOcean We innovate with purpose. The salary range for this position is based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.
