Position Summary

Austin, Hybrid

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join Thales in Austin, TX.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in leading the development of cutting-edge software solutions for state and local government agencies to issue official documents (Driver’s License, ID cards), or to leverage our biometric products for ensuring public safety.

You will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment, leveraging your technical expertise and leadership to contribute to the successful delivery of our projects and drive innovation within our products.

Regulatory Compliance Requirements

Must have U.S. or Dual Citizenship and be able to obtain post-hire clearance from the Committee on Foreign Investments in the U.S. (CFIUS) and Department of Treasury.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, document, develop, and deploy software solutions related to identity management and biometrics.

Lead the full software development life cycle, including requirements, solution design, coding, testing, and maintenance.

Develop high-quality, efficient, and scalable code in accordance with industry best practices and coding standards, within specified timelines.

Conduct thorough testing and debugging of software applications to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Stay up to date with the latest technologies and industry trends to enhance technical skills and contribute to continuous improvement within the team.

Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand user requirements, write functional documentation, and translate them into technical specifications.

Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to ensure the quality and consistency of the software codebase.

Contribute to documentation, including system specifications, user manuals, and technical reports

May be assigned to act as a Work Package Manager, a project role that is accountable to the scope, scheduling, and progress tracking of delivery for the components within the project solution.

Work independently and with a team of Software Engineers and Architects

Interact with our customers during project implementation and as escalated Level 3 support for bug resolution.

Upon request, support our sales/bidding teams’ efforts to craft winning bids and responses.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (or foreign equivalent) or equivalent experience.

10+ years of experience in software engineering, with good understanding of software engineering practices and processes.

8+ years of experience in modern software development, with programming tools such as C#, .Net, Java

5+ years of experience in modern JavaScript software development: Angular (9 and 15)

5+ years of experience using modern version control systems: git, mercurial (hg)

Understanding of software security for application development, data protection in transit and at rest.

Data modeling and querying (SQL Server, MySQL)

Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall)

Knowledge of best practices for web API design, usability, and security.

Strong knowledge of best practices for server application architecture and development.

Ability to work in both full autonomy and on a team.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Strong analytical mind and problem-solving skills, able and willing to learn.

Pragmatic with a logical approach to problem solving – supporting the team to solve a difficult problem with a cost-effective solution.

The reference Total Target Compensation(TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between

Total Target Cash (TTC): 132,921.15 - 177,228.20 - 216,600.00 USD Annual

This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
