Senior Software Engineer, Developer Platforms - SRE

About the Role The New York Times (NYT) is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Developer Platforms organization as part of the Engagements team. + The Developer Platforms organization provides cloud infrastructure and tooling to over 60 teams and 450+ engineers in NYT Product Engineering via an internal developer platform. + The Engagements team consists of 5 engineers of different levels who promote platform adoption to enhance developer productivity across the organization. + You will report to the Engineering Manager of the Engagements team. + The team collaborates with NYT product engineering teams to modernize and migrate systems to the platform. + This support enables product engineers to focus on feature development, ensuring the creation of reliable, scalable, and secure applications. You will follow a hybrid work schedule based in our New York City headquarters. You can typically expect to come into the office two days a week. Responsibilities: + You will help guide product engineering teams on the adoption and usage of cloud infrastructure, Developer Platforms tooling, and solutions. + You will also engage with engineers across the entire department to make incremental improvements to our tech strategy and the implementation of our platform. + Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence (https://www.nytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world. Basic Qualifications: + 4+ years of experience with services provided by Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform. + 2+ years of experience operating Kubernetes clusters (management, container orchestration, networking). + 1+ years of experience doing migrations to different cloud providers. + 1+ years of experience provisioning infrastructure using Terraform or similar. Preferred Qualifications: + Kubernetes certifications, such as CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) or CKAD (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer). + Experience with service mesh technologies, such as Istio. + Experience configuring observability tools such as DataDog and Prometheus. This role may require limited on-call hours.
