Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

NBC Select, NBC News’s fast-growing product recommendation and shopping site is looking to hire a talented and experienced temporary Senior Social Media & Newsletters Editor to help run the day-to-day for its NYC-based brand at least four days a week for about four to six months, to be extended if needed.

The senior editor will be responsible for stepping in while the current Senior Manager, Community Engagement is on leave to execute strategy and oversee the day-to-day content production and optimization on a variety of e-commerce topics, focusing on building traffic, followers and subscribers, engagement and revenue. They will also manage a team of social media and video editors.

Professional experience organizing, strategizing, ideating, writing and editing for social media channels, newsletters and other audience development outlets required. You will be responsible for the social media and newsletter edit calendars, reviewing and editing content and interpreting analytics into actionable strategies and tactics that benefit readers and help meet business goals. You will collaborate with other stakeholders and teams, including art, analytics, audience development, partnerships, editorial and the NBC News social media and platforms teams. Experience managing a team is also a must.

The ideal candidate is a strong leader and project manager with a proven track record of building audiences. 

Job Description:

Ideate, approve and assign newsletter, social media and video content for NBC Select Guide editors in translating relevant information, research and expert guidance into clear, concise and compelling content Use analytics and data to execute actionable strategies and tacticsDirect, oversee and finalize new strategies and content seriesIdentify new platforms and opportunities for audience development and content distribution as well as monetization opportunitiesManage internal partnership with NBC News to ensure content distribution across social media, Apple News, Flipboard, Newsletter and other emerging platformsWork with editors to sharpen focus, headlines, angles and product choice across the supporting platformsLead newsletter and social media pitch and strategy meetings and contribute to analytics and key stakeholder meetingsWork with partnerships team and audience development team to execute paid activationsWork with audience development team to develop and oversee new strategies for newsletter acquisitionOptimize new and existing posts based on affiliate partnerships and commerce opportunities Monitor news and social space for editorial pitchesOversee editorial calendarWork with legal and standards as needed

PLEASE NOTE: This is a project-based position with an estimated duration of 6 Months, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables are completed.

What we’ll offer: Production Employee (PEP) Regular who works more than 1,000 hours per measurement period:    

Eligible for 401K after 1,000 hours worked in 12 consecutive months  Eligible for Health and Welfare benefits on 1st day of employment  Eligible to participate in Employee Stock Purchase Program after 90 days of employment

Salary range: $85,000-$110,000

Qualifications5 or more years social media experience at a major media brand, commerce experience a plus3 or more years managing a teamProven track record of expanding the social reach of a media outlet or brandProven track record of growing newsletter list of a media outlet or brandExperience with identifying content distribution platforms and monetization opportunitiesWork experience for a major news brand a plus
