In this role, you will:

As a Senior Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you’ll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. As part of Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) you will be responsible for process troubleshooting, process improvements and second-generation process development of Pfizer's late-stage development and commercial biopharmaceuticals and vaccines. Through small and pilot scale process development and transfer to commercial stages, you will partner with manufacturing specialists for API production and provide support for technology transfer to Pfizer manufacturing sites and third-party facilities. Your innovative mindset will help us develop economical, efficient and safe active drug materials. 

You will be recognized as a technical expert and a scientific contributor. With your deep knowledge of the discipline, you will be an active team member whose decisions impact the project. You will be using your scientific judgment to adapt standard methods and techniques by applying prior work experience. You will be forecasting and planning resource requirements for your project team. Your creativity in developing novel processes and new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide team members.

Regularly contribute and influence at the project team level. Apply technical and functional knowledge to design and execute experiments independently to improve productivity and/or robustness of licensed processes. Support technology transfer of drug substance processes to internal Pfizer API manufacturing facilities and external suppliers. Assist the compliance activities on safety and regulatory requirements that are expected and documented through the internal training program. Serve as the primary Technical Expert for the manufacturing methods, perform scientific laboratory studies, and make recommendations to improve manufacturing reliability, cost, safety, compliance and environmental performance. Remain current with bioprocessing literature and applications of continuous development and manufacture. Select, develop, and apply new and existing process technologies to facilitate process design to achieve project goals. Assist with definition and tracking of document management plan. Communicate appropriately on activities and progress to management and key stakeholders. Take personal responsibility for own work, pushing self and others to exceed goals and deliver results. 

Here Is What You Need (Minimum Requirements)

Applicant must have a High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with 12+ years of relevant process development experience at both laboratory and pilot scale; OR an Associate's degree with eleven years of relevant experience; OR a Bachelor’s degree with at least nine years of relevant experience; OR a Master’s degree with more than six years of relevant experience; OR a Ph.D. with three years of experience. Knowledge and experience of mammalian cell culture, including fed-batch and perfusion bioreactor operations.Demonstrated experience in interpretation of analytical data to drive experimental plans and ability to utilize electronic tools to document information.Technical knowledge and skills in bioprocessing & associated analytics achieved through industrial or academic experience in research and development, technical operations, manufacturing, etc. Strong initiative and good problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.Proficiency with electronic tools for documentation. 

Bonus Points If You Have (Preferred Requirements)

Expertise in process research and development. Experience in technology transfer to manufacturing facilities.Knowledge of primary recovery (harvest/clarification) and purification of biologics achieved through industrial or academic experience. Experience with the tools to develop, optimize, characterize and scale up process steps.Excellent organizational and project management skills.Ability to stay current with scientific literature and advancements in the field. 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Will involve typical bioprocessing lab activities including lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending. Will involve higher level higher level statistical analysis of large data sets typically generated during bioprocess manufacturing. 

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Standard day shift hours. Schedule is 1st shift, Monday - Friday. May involve occasional weekend work and work outside normal office hours. Will involve occasional travel (domestic and/or international), potentially for more than one week at a time. Will involve adherence to safe work practices, i.e. lab PPE.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $96,300.00 to $160,500.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
