We are looking for a Senior Scientist who is visionary, collaborative, and technically skilled to join our Drug Substance Process Sciences (DSPS) team, based at our UCB campus located in Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium.

 

About the role

You will drive innovation in upstream process development for UCB’s biologics pipeline from ph2 to launch and lifecycle management, with a strong presence in the laboratory environment. You are going to lead strategic initiatives, optimize processes, support actively the delivery of CMC projects and support clinical and commercial manufacturing. You will be a key player in shaping the future of biologics at UCB.

 

Who you will work with

You will collaborate with global cross-functional teams across research, development, and manufacturing, working closely with experts across geographies and time zones. In this dynamic environment, you will also manage and mentor emerging talents within DSPS, fostering growth and knowledge sharing. Additionally, you will interact with and influence key collaborators, stakeholders, and leaders across the scientific organization to help drive progress in UCB’s pipeline.

 

What you will do

You will lead upstream process development and optimization for protein therapeutics.You will be responsible for defining and executing strategy for innovation through benchmarking, technology scouting, and knowledge sharing.You will increase DSPS visibility (internally & externally) by demonstrating scientific excellence and credibility, representing UCB in conferences, act as committee member on external scientific boards and organizations and engage in collaborations with academic institutions.You will manage cross-functional project teams and manage & mentor scientists.You will provide technical expertise in upstream processing to project teams, supporting technical and scientific exchange across the organization.You will coordinate process characterization and troubleshooting activities.You will contribute to regulatory submissions and scientific publications.You will support the department's leadership team in both the strategic vision and the efficient running of the group.

 

For this role, we are looking for the following education, experience, and skills

PhD or Master’s degree in biotechnology, bioengineering, or related field.Strong expertise in mammalian cell culture and protein expression systems and deep understanding of laboratory processes.Proven leadership and project management experience.Strong communication and collaboration skills across global teams.Experience with QbD, DoE, CMC process development and regulatory documentation.Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.Fluent in English; other languages are a plus.
