SUMMARY OF DUTIES
This exciting opportunity is a key role within R&D and will lead the Applied Materials team of material Scientists and Technicians to develop new chemistry and coatings for next generation of medical devices. The successful candidate will have a passion for research and emerging technologies and an ambition to developing into a Principal Scientist.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the development of novel coatings and surface treatments for medical devices, with a focus on biocompatibility, durability, and regulatory compliance.Drive material selection strategies for new product development, ensuring alignment with performance, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements.Design and validate test methods to evaluate material and coating performance under simulated use conditions.Manage and mentor a team of scientists and technicians, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Collaborate with global materials teams to align on technology roadmaps, share best practices, and leverage cross-site capabilities.Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory affairs.Maintain awareness of emerging materials technologies and regulatory trends in the medical device industry.Contribute to intellectual property development and support regulatory submissions with technical documentation.SUMMARY OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. or M.S. in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.5 years of experience in materials development for medical devices, including coatings and surface modification.Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and cross-functional projects.Deep understanding of biomaterials, polymer science, metallics, and surface engineering.Experience with ISO 10993, ASTM, and other relevant medical device testing standards.Strong analytical skills and proficiency in materials characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, FTIR, mechanical testing). Experience with Class II/III medical devices.Familiarity with regulatory submissions (e.g., FDA, CE Mark).Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a global, matrixed environment.#IJA
