Your Role
The R&D Senior Scientist 1 at the Bellefonte, PA site is responsible for leading research and development projects, developing new products, and providing technical support across various functions. This role involves independent execution of laboratory work, leading and coordination of projects with R&D teams, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product development and transfer to manufacturing. Job duties include:
Design and synthesize compounds and materials using expertise in material science or related field such as polymer synthesisDevelops characterization strategies for novel adsorbent materials and analytical devices to ensure adherence to product performance expectations, with helpful knowledge in porosimetry, particle size measurements, and TGA analysis.Execute routine testing, analysis, and reporting of results, utilizing familiarity with testing chromatography columns and solid phase extraction devices.Identify critical paths and technical milestones for new product development within the projectDevelop feasibility studies and research plans based on market requirements; assess the manufacturability of new products using existing technologies or identify and implement new manufacturing technologies as needed.Maintain accurate and compliant research notebooks and documentation, generate progress reports, and coordinate with project managers and team leaders.Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external stakeholders, maintaining current knowledge in the field through continuous learning activities like literature review, scientific meetings, and seminars.Leverage expertise to troubleshoot manufacturing processes, assist production runs, and support Quality Assurance with investigations of product complaints and regulatory issues.Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%)

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or other science disciplineOR
Master’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or other science discipline and 2 + years of experience in carbon and/or polymer synthesis and chromatographic testing of adsorbentsOR
Bachelor’s Degree in in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or other science discipline and 10 + years of experience in carbon and/or polymer synthesis and chromatographic testing of adsorbentsPreferred Qualifications:
3 + years of experience in research and development, with a strong background in polymer synthesis, carbon synthesis, knowledge of adsorbent particle characterization methods including porosity, adsorbance and size distributions. Proficient in experimental design and data interpretation including Design of ExperimentsStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to publish findings internally and externallyExperience in the characterization of absorbents for chromatography applicationsRSREMD
