Join Gilead and help create possible, together. **Job Description** Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. Protein Therapeutics, the biologics discovery function within Gilead Research, is seeking an experienced and laboratory-facing **senior scientist** to join the Protein Science team to expand our research cell line engineering function. The successful candidate will apply state-of-the-art synthetic biology and cell engineering techniques to create research cell lines for recombinant protein production and support therapeutic candidate screening in vitro and in vivo across Gilead’s therapeutic areas including Virology, Oncology, and Inflammation. He/she will also develop membrane protein target-expressing cell lines to support Protein Therapeutics' antibody discovery and screening activities. In addition, he/she will implement new initiatives and technology development to achieve departmental goals. **Key Responsibilities** · Expand research cell line development function for target expression and therapeutic candidate production to support biologics discovery activities. · Apply hands-on experience in cell engineering and implement new technologies to expedite the timeline from gene to protein expression. · Employ functional genomics approach to enhance cellular processes in platform cell line to improve expression of target molecules. · Support Protein Therapeutics to advance the biologics discovery campaigns from target identification to preclinical development. · Provide scientific data to lead or support publications and patent filing efforts, and present in internal and external group meetings. **Basic Qualifications** Bachelors degree with 8 years of experience OR Masters degree with 6 years of experience OR PhD with 2 years of experience **Preferred Qualifications** · Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology or related disciplines with postdoctoral training and 3+ years professional experience is strongly preferred. Master’s degree with at least 6 years or bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of professional experience in a biopharmaceutical industry setting may also be considered. · Proven track record and hands-on experience in cell line development and process developments for research purposes · Experience in genetic engineering, CRISPR/Cas editing in mammalian cell line generation and characterization. · Knowledge and skills in challenging membrane protein (e.g., multi-pass transmembrane proteins and surface protein complexes) expression in mammalian cells is highly desirable. · Independent and critical thinking and scientific data management skills. · Excellent oral and written communication skills. · Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively on multiple programs in a fast-paced and matrixed organization. **People Leader Accountabilities:** •Create Inclusion - knowing the business value of diverse teams, modeling inclusion, and embedding the value of diversity in the way they manage their teams. •Develop Talent - understand the skills, experience, aspirations and potential of their employees and coach them on current performance and future potential. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
