Our client, a leading consultancy in the energy sector, is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to join its high-performing Technical/Process Safety team. Based ideally in Glasgow or Edinburgh (with flexibility for other UK locations), this role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects across high-hazard industries including Oil & Gas, Low Carbon, and Renewables, supporting the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities Safety Engineering & Technical Delivery Lead and support the delivery of safety engineering projects with a focus on technical excellence and regulatory compliance. Conduct safety assessments including consequence analysis, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Formal Safety Assessments, and Safety Case/COMAH compliance. Develop, author, and review high-quality technical reports and safety documentation. Ensure all safety engineering activities align with applicable legislation and industry standards. Mentoring & Team Development Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and technically strong team environment. Support knowledge sharing and continuous professional development within the team. Contribute to the development of internal safety engineering capabilities and best practices. Project Management & Commercial Support Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and scopes of work for new projects. Manage project delivery to ensure alignment with agreed scope, budget, and schedule. Identify and pursue business development opportunities in collaboration with senior leadership. Client Engagement & Stakeholder Communication Build and maintain strong client relationships through direct engagement and trusted advisory support. Present complex safety engineering concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders. Serve as a key technical liaison across multidisciplinary teams and client interfaces. Skills, Experience & EducationEssential:
Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline. Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional institution. Proven experience in Process/Technical Safety within the energy or high-hazard sectors. Strong background in risk and safety management, including QRA and consequence analysis (e.g., PHAST). Familiarity with UK safety legislation and standards (e.g., COMAH, Safety Case Regulations). Demonstrated ability to produce and review high-quality technical documentation.Desirable:
Experience supporting energy transition projects or renewables. Involvement in successful bids and proposals. Commercial awareness and ability to support business growth initiatives.
