The Role

Preparation of Statutory Financial Statements: Compiling the annual financial statements in accordance with Romanian Accounting Standards (RAS).

Monthly and Annual Closing Activities: Performing reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Tax Compliance: Preparing and submitting tax declarations (e.g. VAT, corporate income tax, payroll taxes) in line with Romanian legislation.

Regulatory Filings: Ensuring timely submission of financial reports to the Romanian authorities, including ANAF (the tax authority) and the Trade Register.

Audit Support: Acting as a point of contact for external and internal auditors, providing documentation and explanations as required.

Signing the Financial Statements: As a certified professional (often an expert accountant accredited by CECCAR), the statutory accountant is legally required to sign and take responsibility for the accuracy and compliance of the financial statements.

Liaison with Authorities: Managing interactions with local regulatory bodies, including responding to inquiries or audits.

Requirements:

Educational BackgroundBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related fieldA Master’s degree in Finance or Tax Law is often preferredCECCAR (Romanian Chartered Accountant certification) is a strong assetKnowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP may be required, depending on the company

Technical SkillsIn-depth knowledge of Romanian statutory accounting and tax regulationsProven experience with:Monthly, quarterly, and annual closingsPreparation of statutory financial statementsProfit tax, VAT, and local tax filingsProficiency in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or othersAdvanced Excel skillsFamiliarity with local accounting software (e.g., Saga, Ciel, SmartBill) is a plus

Professional Experience3–5 years of experience in statutory accounting, ideally in a multinational environment or audit firmExperience coordinating with external auditors and tax authoritiesUnderstanding of intercompany transactions, transfer pricing, and local compliance requirements

Language & CommunicationFluency in RomanianStrong English skills (both written and spoken)Ability to communicate effectively with auditors, tax authorities, and international finance teams
