The opportunity:

We're looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Risk Management Specialist – Financial to lead the charge in monitoring, assuring, and reporting financial risks across our business. In this pivotal role, you’ll work closely with the Head of Risk – Financial to embed a robust, end-to-end risk framework and implement high-impact risk standards that support AIA NZ’s strategic goals.

This opportunity is available at the Senior Specialist level but applications are also welcome from at the Specialist level.

Key responsibilities include:

Proactively monitor and adopt the Group’s Financial Risk Policies and develop AIA NZ specific policies, procedures and guidance as required.

Monitor adherence to Group and AIA NZ Financial Risk Policies and proactively escalate exceptions to the Group for advice and approval.

Develop and implement AIA NZ’s financial risk frameworks in line with the Financial Risk Policies.

Deliver the annual Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) and associated materials to support Board approval.

Contribute to the risk reporting requirements set by the Group, Board, Risk Committees, and Regulators; and ensure timely submission of the reports.

Collaborate with the Risk Governance and Strategy team, AIA Australia and Group Office to ensure that frameworks, policies, standards, procedures and reporting relating to financial risk are consistent with stakeholder expectations.

Work closely with business stakeholders to instill and strengthen ownership of risk and controls across the wider organization. This includes providing independent challenge and insight to support business understanding of the local Risk Profile.

Develop and maintain strong advice-based relationships with management across the business.

Develop and maintain collaborative internal and external partnerships to leverage the three lines of defense.

Contribute to the Risk community within AIA New Zealand, Australia and Group, including regular involvement in meetings and projects.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

Strong ability to use own initiative and innovate to achieve responsibilities of the role applying a high standard of analytical skills, good judgment, decision making and problem-solving skills.

Ability to recognize and foresee strategic opportunities for change, thinking outside the box to identify ideas and solutions for continuous improvement.

Ability to absorb high workloads and multitask the delivery of many activities whilst delivering stakeholder requirements.

High level of self-awareness, especially in relation to impact on others and able to tailor communication style appropriately.

Ability to challenge constructively to influence outcomes in a proactive and respectful manner.

Experience and comfort working with senior leaders across the business.

Experience and understanding of the financial services industry, financial risk concepts such as asset-liability management, and governance frameworks and associated controls preferably in relation to life insurance companies. Candidates with banking experience in areas such as market, credit and liquidity risk management, or experience in quality assurance or audit, will also be considered.

Relevant Tertiary qualification in a related business discipline such as Finance, Commerce, Actuarial, or Risk Management.
