Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Kyle Orwig’s laboratory in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a senior research scientist. Research in the Orwig lab focuses on stem cells, germ lineage development, fertility and infertility. Located in Magee-Womens Research Institute and Magee-Womens Hospital, the lab is committed to developing next generation reproductive technologies and translating them into clinical practice.

Preferred qualifications

Knowledge of reproductive biology/reproductive medicine.Knowledge of stem cell biology, developmental biology, regenerative medicine.Experience with stem cell culture (adult tissue stem cells and/or pluripotent stem cells).Proficiency working with animal models.Publications representing research productivity.Basic computational skills to analyze and interpret RNA/Genomic sequencing results.

Minimum qualifications

MD or PhD in basic sciences, health sciences or related fields.Strong background in developmental biology, molecular genetics and/or regenerative medicine.Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Serves as subject matter expert and conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various complex documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates, junior lab members, and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates high-level work and project development in collaboration with other specialists.

Job duties

Wet bench research includes molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, high throughput single cell genomics/transcriptomics, cell culture, FACS, gene therapy/gene editing and other approaches.Stem cell culture, germline differentiation and transplantation.Microscopy and imaging.Mouse research including breeding, weaning, surgery and dissection.Nonhuman primates research possible.Human cell and tissue research.The successful candidate will be expected to develop and manage their own research projects in collaboration with the PI.Perform data analysis and prepare for publication and presentation at national/international meetings.Write manuscripts and postdoctoral grant applications.Work in a team environment and mentor other lab members at all levels of academic development.Performs other job duties as assigned.
