Who we are at Osmo:
Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory. This foundational understanding of smell's impact has directly informed the development of our latest innovation: Generation.
Generation is a new kind of fragrance house powered by Olfactory Intelligence (OI) to blend AI with world-class perfumery. It will help brands create emotionally resonant scents faster, more accessibly, and with greater creative clarity. Our technology allows us to explore vast scent possibilities, discover novel ingredients, and design fragrances informed by both data and artistry.
Beyond fragrance, Olfactory Intelligence has applications across industries including manufacturing, security, medicine, and more. We believe in the power of automation and thoughtfully applied AI/ML to solve problems beyond the reach of human intuition alone. Osmo is headquartered in New York, NY, with a new facility in New Jersey, and offices in Somerville, MA.
Osmo is seeking a Senior QC Specialist/QC Manager - Fragrance and Raw Materials to join our Performance, Quality & Analytical Chemistry Team. In this role, you will ensure the integrity and performance of the raw materials that power Generation and Olfactory Intelligence. You’ll combine rigorous analytical testing with sensory evaluation to uphold the highest standards of safety, consistency, and olfactive excellence.
Key Responsibilities
QC Workflow Leadership & Optimization: Oversee and enhance existing QC workflows for both raw materials and finished products, proactively identifying and implementing immediate improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
Comprehensive Material QC: Execute and manage identity, purity, and specification checks on all incoming raw materials and finished products (those prepared internally or manufactured by tolling partners).
Advanced Analytical Instrumentation & Data Analysis: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot GC/MS, flash-point testers, moisture analyzers, refractometers, and other essential lab equipment. Analyze and interpret complex GC/MS and physicochemical data for both forward formulations and deformulation projects, providing clear, actionable insights to R&D and perfumery teams.
Expert Sensory Evaluation & Calibration: Conduct meticulous organoleptic assessments of materials, comparing samples against reference standards, documenting nuanced olfactive profiles, and contributing to the development of sensory panels and controls.
Method Development & Validation Ownership: Lead the development, optimization, and formal validation of new and existing QC methods to significantly expand Osmo's analytical capabilities, ensuring robustness and compliance.
Cross-Functional Quality Collaboration & Problem Solving: Work collaboratively with Procurement, R&D, Supply Chain, Regulatory, and QA specialists to investigate quality deviations, define root causes, drive effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and strategically support ingredient sourcing.
Process Documentation & Compliance Excellence: Develop, write, and maintain comprehensive SOPs, maintain meticulous lab notebooks and QC certificates, and ensure stringent adherence to safety protocols and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., IFRA, REACH).
Next-Generation QC Tooling & Automation Strategy: Collaborate closely with the AI/AR team, analytical chemistry, and sensory experts to advise on the conceptualization, development, and implementation of automated QC tools and next-generation analytical solutions.
Required Qualifications

5+ years of hands-on experience in a fragrance, flavor, or fine-chemicals QC/analytical laboratory.
Proficiency in GC/MS operation, data analysis, and flash-point testing.
Trained or highly sensitive nose with a strong familiarity of olfactive families and fragrance structures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey both technical and sensory findings with precision.
Strong organizational aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
