Conducts advanced threat assessments and investigations to mitigate real-world risks to the Bank’s executives, facilities, operations, and reputation. Evaluates threat actors, protest activities, and geopolitical developments, delivering high-quality intelligence products to support executive protection, workplace violence prevention, and enterprise risk strategies. The analyst mentors junior team members and enhances analytical tradecraft.
Location: This role is based in Buffalo, NY. Open to considering candidates out of one M&T's main hubs within our footprint, but preference will be given to candidates based in Buffalo or who are willing to relocate.
Primary Responsibilities:Analyze historical and current threat data to anticipate future risks and contribute to proactive defense strategies. Conduct detailed analyses of identified threats, synthesizing data into actionable intelligence.Develop tactical and strategic intelligence products, such as Person of Interest profiles, risk forecasts, and executive briefings, using structured analytical techniques.Monitor current events and recognize potential correlations with evolving threat landscape; communicate with partner teams to adjust policies and procedures.Track intelligence from multiple sources, identify relevant information, and report findings.Contribute insights from internal analysis for intelligence sharing initiatives with other organizations, information sharing groups, and industry groups. Engage with vendor for routine security products or solutions support.Identify opportunities for tuning and development of intelligence platforms' rules, alerts, and correlation logic to strengthen the security of the organization.Collaborate across Corporate Security organization and with key partners to ensure appropriate intelligence is received and shared.Assist in the development of threat assessment frameworks, SOPs, and escalation protocols. Document clear and concise intelligence findings into standardized format to incorporate into threat intelligence briefings for broader Corporate Security team or leadership.Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicableComplete other related duties as assigned.

Working knowledge of Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) and social monitoring tools, Requires advanced knowledge of OSINT, threat assessment methodologies, and protective intelligence tradecraft. Actively contributes intelligence into Intelligence Platform.

No supervisory responsibilities.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Intelligence Studies, Behavioral Analysis, or a related field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in protective intelligence, behavioral threat assessment, law enforcement, and/or corporate security, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or relevant work experience.
Strong analytical tradecraft, including structured techniques, and ability to communicate risks clearly.
Minimum of 1 years' experience with tools and techniques for analyzing real-world threats and synthesizing complex data.
Experience Preferred:
Advanced degree or industry-recognized certification (e.g., ATAP CTM, ASIS CPP).
Experience in corporate or multidisciplinary security environments.
Advanced understanding of threat motivations, methodologies, and behavioral indicators.
Proficiency in evaluating fragmented or contradictory intelligence datasets.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex risk scenarios.
Experience presenting to senior stakeholders or briefing in high-pressure environments.
Understanding of what types of intelligence a financial institution would benefit from receiving and how it can be operationalized.
