Senior Project Manager/Construction Manager
We are managing complex, large-scale commercial projects from conceptual planning through design, construction, and occupancy. Join our construction management team to collaborate on projects that are as technically challenging as they are impactful, creative, and fulfilling Opportunity: Stantec is seeking a Senior Project/Construction Manager (PM/CM) to join our Project and Construction Management teams. The PM/CM ensures the success of assigned projects through client engagement, leadership, and team mentorship. You will focus on managing project/program activities, expectations, and risk, while leading, supporting, and/or advising clients and staff throughout all stages of the project life cycle. You will have a sound knowledge of the construction industry, project management functions, tools, and systems and be able to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously. The role will report to the BCPL and will work with PM/CM leadership to deliver projects and provide a key mentorship role to both teams and their staff. The PM/CM will play an integral role in liaising with clients and the PM & CM teams to ensure quality service is provided. Responsibilities: - Oversee all services provided by an integrated team, including but not limited to: general program and project management services (scheduling, cost controls, risk management, change management, document control, interface management, engineering management, etc.), subject matter expert providing technical support on projects, regulatory and permitting support, technical studies to support planning and design efforts, procurement of design and construction, construction management, operations & maintenance liaison, operations and maintenance readiness, community outreach and communications, project and program delivery strategy, funding strategy, and training/knowledge transfer. - Serve as a trusted advisor to the client and work as part of an integrated Client/Consultant Leadership Team. - Pro-actively identify client needs and programmatic initiatives required to address potential program delivery risks and challenges. - Establish and maintain relationships with a variety of government agencies, companies, and the general public to ensure quality work and stakeholder interests are addressed. - Ensure that assigned projects are built safely, on time, within budget, and to the required construction standards and specifications. - Work with considerable independence in a fast-paced and dynamic environment full of ongoing changes, requiring sound judgment and timely responses. - Oversee activities related to stakeholder deliverables, contract administration, change orders, submittals, procurement, project financial projections, and schedule requirements to ensure projects are completed with quality, in budget, and governance, adhering to our client’s and Stantec’s Safety culture. - Assist owners/clients with execution of the program, addressing strategy and delivery challenges and supporting internal client departments as required. Oversee implementation of program delivery procedures and processes and confirm the program team’s performance against stated objectives. - Obtain a solid understanding and working competency of Stantec technical systems and business processes. - Actively manage diverse capital projects of varying size and complexity across any of the Stantec sectors. - Provide coaching, mentoring, and leadership in support of PM & CM leadership as well as staff. - Engage with clients and obtain client feedback on our performance. - Raise our team’s profile in the industry and help establish your reputation as an expert within Stantec. This includes presenting at conferences or events. - Assist with developing the annual business plan and budget for the team. - Lead targeted major project pursuits in collaboration with other senior staff. - Assist in team engagement and morale that is demonstrated by incremental improvement in corporate team survey results. - Assist in resource management, recruitment, and succession planning to support the growth of our team. - Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and the HSE management system on assigned projects. Qualifications: - Specialized project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning, and executing public and private projects from pursuit through closeout, involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey program and project delivery needs to the client and to formulate those needs into comprehensive proposals. - Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects and activities simultaneously. - Strong technical understanding of large infrastructure, organizations, and processes. - Demonstrated successful experience in leadership, including defining and setting the direction for a team, and project; strategy development; change management; and corporate stewardship. - Knowledgeable in relevant areas of construction and understanding of various design and construction contracting methods and processes. - Ability to be an independent thinker capable of solving problems within a team environment by analyzing technical issues, applying underlying principles, and delivering cost-effective solutions that provide value to clients. - Ability to manage project stakeholders by speaking clearly and persuasively with exceptional interpersonal skills. - Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to perform well under the pressure of deadlines. - Adapts to a dynamic project environment and able to manage multiple tasks over an extended period. - Proactively identifies project risks and determines their impact on the project with a proven ability to mitigate or resolve in a timely manner. - Demonstrated ability to work successfully with clients, internal teams, and contractors. - Strong computer literacy in scheduling, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software. - Experience with budget management in a package or custom software. - Strong understanding of design and construction processes and requirements. - Understanding of plans, contracts, and specifications. - Travel to local and out-of-province project sites and client offices as required. Education and Experience: - Minimum 15 years’ relevant experience in project management/construction management, preferably on large engineering, design, and construction projects. - Bachelor’s degree in engineering or sciences, Civil technology diploma plus related experience in Construction Management or equivalent combination of education and experience; a master's degree is considered an asset. - Significant experience - leading complex, multi-year highway construction projects. - in developing and managing contracts, and implementing Quality Management Systems. - In resolving contentious issues with contractors, consultants, stakeholders, and outside agencies. - managing multi-million dollar budgets, including estimating, tracking, and forecasting costs. - experience managing staff and resources. - P.Eng, PMP certification or an equivalent designation would be an asset. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
