ABOUT THE POSITION

 

Senior Project Manager - Civil Engineering Department | Hybrid | Hauppauge, NY

 

VHB’s growing Hauppauge, NY office is seeking a Senior Project Manager (Civil Engineer) to join our Civil/Land Engineering Department. This position offers the opportunity to lead and manage high-profile, complex projects across multiple sectors, including institutional development, sustainable coastal engineering and shoreline resiliency, transportation-related access/roadway work, site development, grading, drainage, utility layout/services, and permitting/approvals.

 

The ideal candidate will manage client relationships and oversee end-to-end project delivery across multiple accounts. The role requires strong project management capabilities, technical expertise, and a commitment to staff development, with responsibility spanning from project planning through implementation. As part of a growing office and region, this position offers significant opportunities for advancement within both the local office and the broader Northeast region.

 

Responsibilities

Lead and develop site/civil engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of projectsHelp build and lead a multi-dimensional team of civil engineering professionalsProvide technical and career guidance as a mentor to staff Manage medium to large multi-disciplined projects for both public and private clients Provide input to Market Leads for Institutional, Real Estate, Transportation, and Energy MarketsDevelop new project opportunities, maintain client relations, and manage proposal submissionsPrepare workload projections and track project financial performancePrepare and review design drawings, specifications, and permitting documentsLead meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, boards, utility providers, and stakeholdersAdminister VHB’s quality program and reviews for project deliverablesSupervise design team activities during Construction Administration/Support Services

Skills and Attributes

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsProficient in civil site layout, local roadway design, grading/drainage, utility design, and erosion/sediment controlExperience with real estate projects, institutional, transportation, and energy projects a plusA basic understanding of the need for land survey, traffic engineering, geotechnical engineering, and site investigation and remediation, as supporting disciplines to projectsExcellent coaching and mentoring skillsSelf-motivated critical thinker Exhibits leadership and project management skillsExcels working in an integrated service team environmentAttention to detail

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field requiredMaster’s degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)11-15+ years of professional civil design engineering experience requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) licensure requiredA local knowledge and understanding of working on Long Island a plusExperience with abilities of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil3D, and/or MicroStationExperience managing client relationships and overseeing end-to-end project delivery across multiple accounts.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $138,000-178,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
