We are currently seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Power Production & Distribution to join our Marine & Ports Electrical Solutions team. This team supports multiple departments across ABB Marine & Ports, with this role primarily focused on supporting our Modernization department, which handles upgrades and retrofit projects for vessels with ABB systems.
This position will primarily, however not exclusively, be supporting our Modernization department. Modernization is responsible for upgrades and retrofit projects for vessels with ABB deliveries.
The position can be based at either our Ulsteinvik or Fornebu office.
About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer with expertise in power production and distribution to join our Electrical Solutions team. This team supports multiple departments across ABB Marine & Ports, with this role primarily focused on our Modernization department, which handles upgrades and retrofit projects for vessels equipped with ABB systems.
You will play a key role in engineering and managing project deliveries of varying size and complexity. This includes close coordination with shipyards, shipowners, class societies, ABB factories, and subcontractors. You will also collaborate with ABB service and commissioning engineers—and may even take part in commissioning activities yourself, if desired.

Lead engineering activities within the power scope of marine projectsCoordinate with internal and external stakeholders including customers, suppliers, and classification societiesFollow up on project deliveries and ensure technical quality and complianceProvide technical leadership and support during commissioning phasesTravel occasionally to customer sites, suppliers, and shipyardsWhat We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you should have at least five years of experience in designing electrical power systems. While a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering is preferred, we also welcome applications from experienced ship electricians with relevant commissioning and engineering backgrounds.
Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in switchboard operations, programming of protection relays, and a solid understanding of power system dynamics and power generation.
You should be able to effectively combine practical skills with theoretical knowledge. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is essential.
