Our customers also benefit from our scientific support in the field of fragrances engineering across the world.IFF is hiring a new position of Process Engineer for his Manufacturing Technology team based in Benicarló site.
In this role, you will be a key player for industrialization of new products as well for transferring products between production plants inside the site. As a process engineer, you will contribute to the implementation of continuous improvement actions, resolution of operational problems as well as improvement of technologies and processes in terms of safety. The candidate will also support investment projects and be responsible for some key aspects of the capital project flow.
Key responsibilities:
Continuous improvement and industrialization support
Identify, prioritize and execute continuous improvement actions and monitor their effects on industrial scale.
Lead the execution of new industrialization and inter-site transfers, and evaluate scale-up.
Communicate industrialization/transfer reports.
Determine production capability through bottlenecks study, capacity plan and propose an action plan.
Initiate, support and use digital methods: to capture data, analyze data using statistical tools
Participate in inter-site Manufacturing Technology technical network (global)
Equipment design for its posterior application in organic synthesis reactions
Designing, installing and commissioning new production units, monitoring modifications and upgrades, and troubleshooting existing processes;
Instituting scale-up and scale-down processes including appropriate changes to equipment design and configuration;
Assessing options for plant expansion or reconfiguration by developing and testing process simulation models;
Implementing and applying new technologies.
Operational support and investment projects
Optimization and enhancement of current equipment resources
Take the lead in resolving operational problems related to the process.
Investigate, propose, and execute solutions to maintain/improve operational KPIs
Deliver basic data and develop process technology documentation by defining the project needs in the context of process modifications.
Perform start-up of new units (FAT/SAT – QI/QO/QP)
Assist with PSM (Process Safety Management) program; PHAs (Process Hazard Analysis) and initiate/participate MOCs (Management of Change) processes.
Applying the principles of mass, momentum and heat transfer to process and equipment design, including conceptual, scheme and detail design;
Process modeling and real process validation
Engineering continuous awareness of options for implementing them in case necessary assessing processes and assessing the adequacy of engineering equipment
Reviewing existing data to see if more research and information need to be collated; conducting process development experiments to scale in a laboratory; supporting the conversion of small-scale processes into commercially viable large-scale operations
Preparing reports, flow diagrams and charts; assuming responsibility for risk assessment for the health and safety of both company staff and the wider community; making observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved;
Working closely with process chemists and control engineers to ensure the process plant is set up to provide maximum output levels and efficient running of the production facility;
Working closely with other specialists, including: engineers responsible for plant maintenance; Plan Supervisors responsible for production schedules; and the operating crew.
Comply with and enforce the corporate standards in matters of Health and Safety at work, Environmental Protection, Prevention of SERIOUS Accidents, Compliance with quality requirements of products and services, and strictly follow the instructions and standards of safety, quality and protection of the environment indicated in the work instructions and / or manual of the manufacturer of the work equipment, and use the Individual Protection Equipment and means of containment provided by the company.
Job requirements
Chemical Engineer
Fluent in English (oral and written) and Spanish.
10 years of experience minimum in chemical manufacturing (preferred fragrance ingredients)
Leadership competences to manage group by leading with the example, inspiring, and empowering them.
Problems solving skills to define problems in practical terms, analyze critically, deliver solutions and follow through to solution.
Knowledge in data management tools and Operational excellence key principles
Soft skills
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team and succeed in an international, multicultural and multidisciplinary work environment.
Good organization in technical project management
Agile, dynamic, proactive personality, open to change and ready to invest in the success of the group's sites.
Ability to understand process impacts or technology modifications on functional properties of starters produced by plants
Good knowledge on chemical industry
Strong capacity for adaptation, anticipation and affinity for field work will be essential.
Good knowledge of basic equipments : pumps, energy exchanger, valves, instrumentation, piping, etc. and how to integrate them into production units.
Good practical knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermodynamics
Able to listen and understand internal customers’ needs to accelerate product development and process improvements.
