Senior Paralegal

Location: Buffalo, NY Duration: 1 month, with possibility for extension Overview: The project consists of loading investment documents into software system. The Senior Paralegal will lead legal support and case management as deemed necessary by attorneys representing various departments and functions of Corporation and its affiliates. The day-to-day focus will be on resolution of complex problems or transactions in areas assigned based on professional specialization. Primary Responsibilities: Conduct extensive legal research, review, and interpret legal documents for validity, content, accuracy, and compliance. Maintain general contact with and act as a liaison between attorneys and clients with respect to products and services as assigned. Assess bank forms to determine whether revisions are necessitated by changes in regulations, bank policy, or product offerings. Review, investigate, and manage complex legal complaints and other complex legal matters referred to Counsel's Office. Obtain and analyze information, coordinate and monitor responses, or refer as appropriate. Prepare summaries of research results and conclusions, and make recommendations to attorneys on legal issues to ensure legal and regulatory compliance. Interview clients and witnesses, and research facts to obtain pertinent information surrounding legal issues that affect the organization. Apply superior knowledge, experience, and judgment to advocate and drive appropriate resolutions to legal issues. Oversee key projects involving litigation, compliance, regulatory, and product issues that affect the organization. Develop a thorough understanding of the business lines supported, their functions, processes, and operations. Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies. Promote an environment that supports diversity. Maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points, and address issues raised by regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned. Scope of Responsibilities: This position requires extensive interaction with Counsel, internal business unit personnel, senior leaders, external customers, vendors, and governmental agencies. The incumbent works independently with some supervision of an attorney in direct legal matters. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities: May supervise day-to-day activities of Associate Paralegal or Paralegal employees. Education and Experience Required: Strong attention to detail Ability to focus for extended periods of time General knowledge of investment document types (e.g., Limited Partnership Agreement) Bachelor’s degree in related specialization and a minimum of 5 years of paralegal experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years paralegal experience Education and Experience Preferred: Experience working in a financial services or banking environment Familiarity with MRI/Investment Central or similar document management systems Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
