Senior Network Engineer, Google Global Networking

Minimum qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
+ 6 years of experience with network routing protocols, design and troubleshooting, with network equipment providers.
+ Experience with planning and designing networks (e.g., multiple sites, multiple products, etc.).
+ Experience with Network Operations, Network Infrastructure, IP Network, IP Peering, Cloud Networking, IP Routing and MPLS VPN.
Preferred qualifications:
+ Experience in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.
+ Experience with Optical Networking and Go or Python.

The Global Network Technologies (GNT) team develops the systems, technologies and tools to support Google's global network connecting data centers and cloud regions to each other and to the users as part of Google’s Global Networking and Infrastructure organization.
The team owns relationships with external vendors for network devices in terms of the hardware and software roadmaps. The team also makes sure that these building blocks integrate seamlessly with the Google control plane, management plane, and monitoring ecosystems.

From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $156,000-$229,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. + Drive the quantifiable analysis of measurements, or data and capacity forecast models for making networks more scalable, efficient, and deliver predictable user experience.
+ Evaluate the current inefficiencies, complexities, and flaws in network systems, and propose designs, software, and processes to improve them.
+ Provide a point of contact for having technical discussions on networking features with vendors and communicating decisions on prioritization to vendors.
+ Review defects related to both hardware and software to understand their impact on the network, and escalate and prioritize fixes to vendors appropriately.
+ Co-develop and communicate vendor roadmap to wider organization, and drive understanding and evaluation of vendor platform roadmaps in the context of Google requirements and long-term direction.
