Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s Advanced Materials Technology Department is currently seeking an experienced Senior Metallurgical Engineer focused on metallurgical product development and failure analysis. In this role, you will have an opportunity to analyze a wide variety of machine components providing design support, development, and the associated failure analysis investigations to various machine component product groups.
 

What You Will Do:

Lead material failure analysis investigationsDevelop metallurgical testing plans and analyze test resultsCreate technical reports and/or proceduresEffectively communicate results to our internal clientsProvide technical support to metallurgical laboratory operations personnelSupport deviation requests, assurance of supply opportunitiesSupport needs of product design, supplier development engineers, etcProvide recommendations to internal clients

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university

Oversees the testing processes of multiple products in a high-volume manufacturing environment.Participates the development of standards, guidelines and best practices for testing.Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.

Considerations For Top Candidates:

Advanced Materials or Metallurgical Engineering DegreePrior Failure Analysis Experience with Ferrous and Non-Ferrous materialsExcellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.Experience with component design and/or supporting manufacturing operationsExperience with Heat Treatment ProcessesExperience in creating technical reports, publications and/or procedures.Strong Analytical SkillsSelf-starter, accountable, and customer driven with strong teamwork and organizational skills.Ability to work multiple projects concurrently

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this positionThis position may require 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:

$126,000.00 - $189,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
