Senior Mechanical/ Piping Designer
Location: Perth, WA
Indicative assignment length: 12-month Contract
The role
A well-regarded mining EPCM is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical/ Piping Designer to join their Perth team. The company has a strong footprint in the mining, minerals, and metals sector, delivering practical, high-value solutions for complex brownfields upgrade projects.
This role focuses on sustaining capital projects for major mining clients, including Rio Tinto and BHP. You will be reporting directly to the Design Manager.
Create detailed 3D models and technical drawings in line with industry standards and internal procedures
Lead and facilitate design reviews across multi-discipline teams
Develop practical layout solutions with a strong focus on efficiency and constructability
Monitor design progress and ensure alignment with project timelines and budgets
Collaborate daily with engineers, project managers, clients, and designers
Provide guidance and mentoring to junior team members, including supporting and upskilling remote design teams in Asia
Maintain a high standard of safety in both design and day-to-day practice
Strong experience in piping/mechanical design for mining projects (brownfields preferred)
Background in materials handling, wet plants, stackers, crushers, conveyors, chutes, etc.
Must have 50/50 mechanical and piping background
Certificate III or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Drafting (advantageous)
Proficiency in 3D modelling tools (MicroStation highly regarded)
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to mentor offshore resources (non-managerial but capability-focused support)
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
