Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical systems and components across complex engineering projects. This role involves technical oversight, project coordination, and mentoring junior engineers to ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient engineering outcomes aligned with business objectives and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and delivery of mechanical design solutions, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations.Conduct detailed engineering calculations and simulations to support the design and validation of mechanical systems.Produce and review technical documentation including design reports, specifications, drawings, and test procedures.Liaise with cross-functional teams including electrical, structural, and systems engineers to integrate mechanical designs into broader systems.Support project planning and control activities including cost estimation, scheduling, and risk management.Serve as a technical authority, providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.Drive design reviews, failure investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.Ensure all work complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations as well as quality assurance protocols.

Work Experience

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s degree or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred.Typically 8+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, nuclear, defence, automotive, or manufacturing).Proven track record in leading mechanical design projects through the full lifecycle.Knowledge in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) and engineering analysis software.Strong knowledge of relevant engineering codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ISO, BS EN).Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.Experience with project management tools and methodologies is advantageous.

Desirable Attributes:

Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience supervising or mentoring engineering teams.Familiarity with systems engineering principles and configuration management.Exposure to working in multi-disciplinary teams on high-value or safety-critical projects.Experience with procurement and supplier engagement for mechanical components.
