Lead Mechanic - Variable Shift

Grifols Diagnostic Solutions Inc is seeking a Lead Mechanic in San Diego, CA. Maintenance leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily work of a team mechanics across multiple buildings and processes to ensure corrective and preventive work is completed on time and with high safety and quality. Reviews and closes work orders and provides technical training for maintenance mechanics. Will step in as required to support execution of maintenance work when issues are escalated. Executes equipment change controls, generates continuous improvement project ideas to improve equipment and systems, and maintains equipment reliability metrics. Implements equipment improvement projects to optimize cycle time, reliability, quality, and safety. Manages the site spare parts inventory to ensure parts availability, replacement of obsolete parts, and reduction in overall maintenance costs. **Variable Shift Information: For this Lead Mechanic, we are looking for individuals who are flexible to variable shifts (1st, 2nd, and 3rd).** Primary Responsibilities for role: + Qualified to perform all basic and advanced in-house maintenance procedures and actively improves maintenance procedures to optimize safety and efficiency. + Responsible for leading the technical troubleshooting and resolution of all equipment issues (mechanical, electrical, automation) to minimize equipment downtime. + Provides qualification and on-the-job training for instrument technicians and supports the development of training curriculums. + Revises existing maintenance work instructions as necessary and develops procedures for new equipment to support site expansion. + Develops robust preventive maintenance procedures for new and existing equipment to ensure reliable performance. + May travel to other sites to execute preventive and corrective maintenance. + Utilizes SAP and Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System to track and document all maintenance activities. + On-call for equipment issues off-hours including water systems and utilities alarms. + Stays informed of industry best practices and innovative technologies, attends conferences and vendor events, and implements standards across the site. + Ensures scheduling and on-time execution of all preventive and corrective maintenance for the site to minimize downtime to manufacturing operations. + Leads a team of maintenance mechanics including technical training, day to day oversight, work order reviews, and escalation of issues to management. + Provides technical input for equipment related Quality Notifications and Complaints to support root cause investigations and ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions. + Leads and/or participates in cross functional team meetings as maintenance area representative. + Implements large continuous improvement projects to increase equipment reliability, safety, uptime, and reduce the number of corrective work orders. + Mentors and provides technical training to a team of maintenance mechanics ensuring completion of work to maintain production schedule while maintaining good manufacturing practices and compliance with established procedures and regulations. + Generates and approves purchase orders for equipment repairs and parts. Identifies supplier options for reduced parts and service costs. + Develops and Reviews maintenance safety procedures including Lockout Tagout, Fall Protection, Job and Area Hazard Analysis to ensure all equipment is safely maintained. + Maintains the spare parts inventory for the site to ensure critical spare parts are available while minimizing overall inventory costs. + Provides audit support for pulling maintenance records and providing information for technical requests. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot complex equipment and systems independently. + Ability to present technical information confidently and clearly enough for a diverse audience. + Experience with automation systems including Allen Bradley and Building Management Systems. + Proficient with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems to track all plant maintenance and calibration activities (SAP, Maximo) + Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing equipment (Mechanical, Electrical, Pneumatic, Automation) + Strong working knowledge of cGMPs including equipment, automation, and quality systems requirements + Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills (written and oral) required to interface across departments and management levels. + Proficient at reading and using electrical schematics and P&ID drawings. + Advanced computer skills including advanced Excel functions. + Project management skills and ability to mentor team members to deliver projects. + Lean manufacturing experience and ability to coach team members on identifying lean opportunities. + Ability to lead a team of maintenance mechanics with both technical and interpersonal skills to motivate, develop, and build morale. + Ability to use computer software applications (MS Word/Excel). + Experience with machine vision system (Cognex, Keyence, etc.) a plus **Education:** Associates degree, Technical Maintenance Certification or equivalent. **Experience:** + 6-8 years related experience. + 3-5 years’ experience in biotech/pharmaceutical regulated facility. + 1-2 years’ experience as Principal Mechanic. + Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. + Experience working with one or more of the following equipment: Filling Machines and Labelers, Packaging equipment, Water systems, Refrigeration or similar/related equipment + Experience with technical writing for procedures and quality investigations highly preferred. **Equivalency:** + Depending on the area of assignment, directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and/or competencies may be considered in place of the stated requirements. **Occupational Demands:** + Schedule includes Monday-Friday 8 hour shifts with potential to work overtime and possibly weekends + Must be available for On-Call support + Expected to be on feet for 8 hours a day. + Climb heights up to 5-15 feet by ladder. + Lift up to 40lbs may be required. + Environment requires that gowning in the form of hospital scrubs, bunny suits, gloves and steel toe boots be worn. Also, no make-up or jewelry can be worn when working in the clean room environment. + Work in clean room environment with large mechanical equipment, piping, and pumps connecting to tanks serviced by high-pressure steam, water and air together this creates a loud environment. + Work with electrical systems 480VAC and below + Work with hazardous materials and chemicals. + Work on automated fill machines + Work on reverse osmosis systems + Work on refrigeration systems + Wear air purifying respirator and wear necessary hearing protection. + Crawl, kneel and stoop and work in small work spaces. + Must be able to work in cold environments inside cold rooms and freezers for extended periods. **Pay Scale** The estimated pay scale for this Lead Mechanic role based in San Diego, CA, is $42.14 to $60.00 per hour. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool.
