Senior Manager of Research Development & Engagement (Full-Time)
Overview The Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC) is the largest interdisciplinary research center on NYU's Washington Square Campus with a portfolio of over $50 million in active federally- and privately-funded research grants. IHDSC brings together researchers from the social, behavioral, educational, policy, communications, and health sciences to examine how complex social forces such as inequality, globalization, technology, and migration affect human development. The Institute is a joint initiative of the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, the Wagner School of Public Service, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Office of the Provost. Position Summary IHDSC seeks a full-time staff member to facilitate community engagement and cultivation activities, develop and advance relationships with foundations, monitor the funding and philanthropic landscape, and manage administrative and operational responsibilties throughout the pre- and post-award phases of the grant life cycle. This individual works closely with IHDSC leadership to facilitate, plan, and oversee coordination of a variety of communications, events and activities to meet Institute goals, and provides day-to-day operational/administrative support to the Institute's central staff and research community. Essential Functions Community Engagement & Cultivation (35%) + Strategize opportunities to engage the affiliate network in activities to grow the intellectual community and foster partnership. + Represent the Institute in communications and engagement with community based organizations, philanthropic partners, other University-based centers and institutes, and at related meetings and events to share the Institute's mission, goals, and priorities. + Research and identify new prospective non-federal funding sources including private foundations, philanthropic collaboratives, and mission-aligned funders to support community-engaged and interdisciplinary research. + Support faculty and researchers in developing new projects, forming collaborations, or meeting professional development and funding goals. + Strategize, plan, facilitate, and support events and meetings that advance IHDSC's intellectual community goals. Oversee and provide substantive and logistical support for current working groups on mission-aligned topics. + Monitor and analyze trends in funding relevant to IHDSC's research areas, including reviewing past awards, assessing alignment with philanthropic foundation strategies, and identifying key relationship-building opportunities. + Build and maintain relationships with foundation program officers and philanthropic staff to understand funding priorities, develop collaborative opportunities, and strengthen IHDSC's visibility within the philanthropic landscape. + Cultivate relationships with relevant NYU research centers and central offices to identify and build collaborative opportunities and processes in the philanthropic space. + Develop strategies and support mechanisms or PIs pursuing non-federal funding mechanisms. + Provide in-depth research and strategy support for approaching sponsors (i.e., reviewing sponsor guidelines and previously funded projects, understanding role and interests of program officers, finding examples of proposals from applicants both inside and outside of IHDSC, etc.) + Develop the Institute's community engagement and cultivation goals in collaboration with the Institute's Leadership team, including but not limited to building and managing RPP relationships, identifying funding opportunities that prioritize community partnership and engagement, coordinating connections across the scholarly network, and more. Grants and Research Operations Support (40%) + Lead the development and submission of grant proposals, including drafting materials, preparing checklists, developing project budgets, coordinating with subaward sites, editing and formatting attachments, and assembling proposal packages alongside IHDSC's pre-award team and research teams. + Liaise closely with IHDSC, the Steinhardt Office of Research, and NYU Office of Sponsored Programs to track proposal submissions and ensure compliance with University and sponsor guidelines. + Advance IHDSC's scholarly affiliate research development and cultivation efforts by providing targeted funding opportunity research; facilitating connections between faculty, researchers, and partners; and contributing to early-stage proposal review and development. + Facilitate administrative and operational support for research teams at various points throughout the grant life cycle. + Develop and maintain systems to track movement in the awards cycle including operationalizing metrics to help to track patterns over time, shifts in proposal activitiy, project indirect costs, and more. + Curate and develop training and professional development opportunities related to proposal development and budgeting for project coordinators and researchers within the IHDSC network. Communications Management (15%) + Develop and oversee email communications to the IHDSC community including themed newsletters with blog posts and resources, event announcements, weekly job posting digests, special news announcements (e.g., seed awards, annual report) and other digital communications. + Maintain IHDSC's website, update content (CMS) and work with Steinhardt's Web and Marketing Team to implement design changes. Develop and maintain a working knowledge of University guidelines on communications, including digital accessibility. + Manage IHDSC's social media accounts to promote the work of affiliated faculty and researchers, disseminate IHDSC content to relevant audiences and work closely with IHDSC leadership and affiliates to develop social media campaigns. + As needed, provide guidance and/or supervisory support to staff and/or students assisting with IHDSC communications. Special Projects & Events Management (10%) + Provide support for other events and meetings that advance IHDSC's intellectual community goals, such as conferences, special talks, or co-sponsored events. This includes collaborating with other IHDSC team members, faculty affiliates, and project coordinators to coordinate and provide logistical support for events. + Provide backup support for post-award functions of the Institute to ensure compliance with institutional, departmental, and sponsor policies and procedures. + Identify and strategize special projects, pilot new initiatives or operating structures in collaboration with IHDSC's pre- and post-award teams. In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000-$100,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Per NYU's remote-work policy, this position is Hybrid Eligible (on-site 60-80% of the time). This position will directly supervise an hourly student employee to assist with website maintenance, basic communications task (e.g., email drafts, listserv maintenance), and on-campus administrative support as needed. + M.A. required; with eight years of progressively responsible experience in project management, communications, and/or grants management within a University or non-profit setting. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer service orientation and experience managing communications with diverse stakeholders. + Highly responsive. + Flexible and able to routinely juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. + Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders including faculty, students, funders, and department, school, and university administrators. + NYU experience strongly preferred.
