The Senior Manager, Network Engineering is accountable for the overall design, architecture, engineering and ongoing operations of the enterprise network that supports Ferguson’s business operations throughout North America. This role will collaborate with multiple internal and external teams to deliver network engineering-related outcomes throughout the environment, to include data center, cloud, wide-area-network and other critical services, to include wireless and IoT-related areas. Additionally, this leader manages a team of Network Engineers that are responsible for the design, engineering and outcomes that support all aspects of network-related activities throughout the enterprise. This role drives the strategic direction for Ferguson’s network architecture, manufacturer/provider selections for services and equipment as well as ensuring a continual focus on operational excellence via definition and ownership of key performance indicators. This individual will collaborate multi-functionally, mentor engineering staff, maintain strong vendor relationships and seek to align emerging network technologies with stated business goals and related initiatives.

Location: This role is approved to be either Remote within the United States or Hybrid within Headquarters located in Newport News, VA, in accordance with company policy.

Compensation: The approved budgeted salary range for this role is $130,000 to $155,000, based on experience and qualifications. This role also includes an annual bonus structure of 15% to 22.5% of base salary.

Duties & Responsibilities:Lead and mentor a team of network engineers to achieve technical and operational excellence.Develop career paths, development plans, coaching sessions and related performance feedback for the Network Engineering team.Set up and implement network engineering guidelines, documentation standards/mechanisms, and operational procedures.Supervise the design and deployment of network infrastructure solutions to support new and existing branch locations and related markets.Maintain strong relationships with key hardware and software vendors to evaluate and implement new technologies that can help Ferguson scale and achieve desired outcomes.Work closely with Project Managers, NOC, Branch Build/Deployment and Field-related teams to ensure network designs/solutions align with expected delivery outcomes/goals.Lead engineering project timelines, budgets and resource allocations.Plan/budget and track capex / opex spend for network equipment and services for the enterprise environment.Direct vendor selection, proof of concept testing and other technical evaluations of emerging network technologies and solutions when/as required.Review and approve network configurations, changes and related deployment plans that can or would affect network availability or performance.Ensure comprehensive and up-to-date documentation of all network-related environments and services, inclusive of knowledge transfer to supporting teams (NOC, Build, etc.).Deliver reports and presentations to executive leadership outlining network performance, incidents, risks, improvement opportunities and related strategies.Act as an escalation point for reliant teams during major incidents or other ongoing problem/service impacting scenarios.Other Ferguson Core ResponsibilitiesResponsible for driving the Ferguson culture through values and customer service standards.Develops and maintains effective relationships through effective and timely communication.Takes initiative and action to respond, resolve and follow up regarding customer service issues with all customers in a timely manner.Accountable for outstanding service to all external and internal business collaborators.Adhering to all policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.Performing other duties or functions as requested by management.Qualifications & Requirements:Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering or a directly related field.8 -10 years of demonstrated ability leading technical teams in an enterprise environment; ideally in network engineering, network operations or enterprise infrastructure leadership-related roles.Experience with various network management and monitoring solutions to include Cisco/Meraki, Palo Alto, and SolarWinds.Demonstrable experience in crafting, implementing, and operating SD-WAN-based environments; ideally with knowledge of Cisco and Versa-related implementations.Demonstrated experience leading a high-performance technology team responsible for engineering, enhancing and maintaining network solutions in a Fortune 500 or similarly sized organization.Consistent track record of building and sustaining a high performing team capable of driving network modernization efforts in concert with ongoing business commitments and related initiatives.Understanding and experience in a multi-cloud network environment; using software defined networking to automate and provision infrastructure as a service.Demonstrated success handling sophisticated delivery initiatives and delivering measurable results on time and on budget with limited disruption or direction.Budget management experience – managing multimillion-dollar contracts with key service providers as well as developing, tracking and adhering to internal budgeting processes and related efforts with previous experience being responsible for capex and opex investments to ensure efficient expense management.Knowledge of secure network designs and security compliance requirements (i.e. PCI, etc).Demonstrated conflict management, decision making and negotiation skills.Experience in developing, interpreting, and applying metrics to your work and decision making; using these metrics to find opportunities and make informed decisions.Demonstrated leadership capabilities of 5-10 or more highly skilled technical staff charged with designing, engineering, implementing and supporting network infrastructures within the enterprise environment.Deep understanding of computer systems characteristics, features and integration capabilities.Shown leadership ability instilling confidence and demonstrate the business value of IT.In-depth working knowledge of key network, data center and related infrastructure technologies.Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a vision that inspires and motivates staff and aligns to the IT and business strategy.Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources are contended and navigating constantly evolving priorities.Outstanding analytical and conceptual thinking abilities.Strong discernment, including industry, domain-specific knowledge of the enterprise and its business.Developed strategic people plan to place accurate individuals in accurate roles, encouraging high employee engagement.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts across the workforce.Ability to empower in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
