Overview:
The Senior Manager is responsible for Leading, function and strategy, including establishing, implementing, and improving the Company’s safety to protect people, assets, facilities, and customers’ interests throughout APLL’s geographies and functions.
Responsibilities:
Health, Safety and Environment
Lead and manage staff of health, safety, environment, and security professionals in hemisphere. Provides vision, leadership, and training initiatives to organizational efforts that enhance staff safety and security while ensuring specific and defined mechanisms are in place to address safety and security risk to staff globally. Provide oversight and as needed, lead incident investigation teams. Establish, review and support implementation of safety and security procedures for APL Logistics within the hemisphere, and facilitate collaboration with executive management, clients, and other stakeholders. As a core member of the hemisphere management team, must be available for immediate mobilization to assess emergencies, identify safety and security aspects relating to program interventions, set-up security and communications support systems and communicate internally/ externally with key stakeholders. Monitor, research, and assess factors regarding safety and security of APL Logistics offices and staff through the collection and analysis of safety and security incident reports. Around-the-clock responsibility for monitoring security conditions, with particular focus on the countries APL Logistics operates in. Anticipates and responds directly and proactively to staff that may be impacted by emerging events or conditions. Makes recommendations to reduce risk and where necessary undertake targeted technical assistance missions to national offices, prioritizing those in high-risk contexts. Provides leadership and direction for the management of strategic innovation in safety and security. Remains aware of trends, analysis, studies, and evaluations that will inform the organization’s understanding of threats or risks and/or develop effective practices to enhance organizational response to them. Anticipate, recognize, and respond to changing internal and external trends, market conditions, regulatory legislation, etc., evaluate and integrate the information to define the potential effect on the company/network. Serves critical external and internal representation role, in order to raise the profile of APL Logistics, particularly around safety and security of supply chain workers. Deliver and/or facilitate staff safety and security training.Regulatory and Compliance Management
Ensure implementation of HSE efforts are compliant with all relevant regulations, consistent with corporate direction and responsive to customer expectations. Protect APLL’s brand name and stockholder equity by enhancing control and prevention processes, tools and knowledge related to HSE. Implement risk management processes and engage stakeholders to monitor specified compliance on key HSE issues. Develop and maintain credibility within relevant government and industry agencies, with knowledge and experience in interpreting federal regulations.Audit Compliance
Manage all health, safety, security, and environmental audits and reporting. Provide results to key stakeholders within APL Logistics. Ensure high level countermeasures for business risk within safety and security. Lead and standardize team efforts on internal HSSE audit compliance. Liaise with clients on external audits and any countermeasures.Information and Business Advice
Development and management of communications protocols of HSE incident reporting and escalation. Oversight and/or perform investigations of key HSE incidents. Provide key finding to business stakeholdersBusiness Requirements Identification
Maintain fluency with regards to global HSE, including technology and trends. Provide HSE information requested by customers related to HSE, including providing customer support and responding to customer inquiries regarding HSE issues.General Experience
Minimum 7+ years of experience overseeing a global safety for an international business, preferably with extensive experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, warehousing, and terminal operations.Additional Information
Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrated public speaking skills, strong interpersonal skills and experience interacting with government officials, service providers, customers, and stakeholders at all management levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office, enterprise technology and other safety software solutions. Current knowledge of safety practices, tools, and governmental regulations. Knowledge of international supply chain operations preferred. Communicating in English required. Spanish a plus.Candidates must be within 250 miles of an APL Logistics facility or office.
The typical starting salary range for this position is: $130,000 - $140,400.
The actual salary offer will take into account multiple factors including skills, experience, and location. Please note that the salary details listed in role postings reflect the base salary only, not total compensation, which includes bonus and benefits.
