About the Role:
At Paylocity, Senior Software Engineering Managers are technology-focused leaders that act as the bridge between engineering teams and the business strategies driving their outcomes. It is a highly critical role in our Product and Technology organization. This key leader serves as leader of leaders, and is responsible for overseeing the work of multiple engineering teams in our Workflows domain, enabling them to achieve their highest level of performance, efficiency, and customer needs. This position requires commitment to exceptional results, a strong desire for continuous improvement, and the ability to build a collaborative culture within the team.

What you will do:
+ Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional peers to support and influence strategy and development efforts aligned with business direction
+ Own engineering quality, scalability, and overall health across multiple related systems and products in the Workflows domain
+ Guide teams through complex systems and dependencies, providing direction and removing roadblocks
+ Facilitate and drive technical design by breaking down complexity, setting clear timelines, and guiding realistic effort estimation
+ Communicate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including system architecture, project status, and risks
+ Prioritize efforts with peers and stakeholders to balance delivery, tech debt, and maintenance
+ Raise risks proactively and propose mitigation strategies
+ Keep teams informed and integrated with broader organizational initiatives
+ Hire and develop a high-performing, globally-distributed teams while fostering a positive culture
+ Lead operational excellence efforts including incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement
+ Recognize and reward performance, and create opportunities for growth and development
+ Hold self and teams accountable for delivering secure, scalable, and high-quality software
+ Build and maintain strong partnerships with Product counterparts
Experience:
+ BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent experience.
+ 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with 3+ years in a leadership or management role driving success across multiple teams.
+ Experience leading and scaling high-performing engineering teams in a SaaS or enterprise software environment
+ Experience developing and running software using cloud technologies (preferably AWS)
+ A demonstrable level of successful strategy development along with proven outcomes
+ Collaborative project planning capabilities that factor in risk/reward tradeoffs, assumptions and confidence levels
+ Good understanding of various architectural patterns and the related advantages and trade-offs
+ Experience leveraging observability and monitoring tools such as DataDog
+ Versed in the design and development of API based platforms
+ Able to work effectively in a team environment in an Agile fashion
Nice to have:
+ Familiarity with the challenges and techniques for successfully integrating AI/ML into product features. Preferably with hands-on experience
Physical requirements:
+ Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day
+ Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously
