Job overview and responsibilities

As the Senior Manager of IT Application Development, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a new internal collection of reusable ancillary APIs. This pivotal product is integral to United's growth strategy and is designed to seamlessly integrate ancillary capabilities with dozens of systems within and outside the organization. Your primary responsibility will be to lead a team dedicated to digital transformation. This will involve providing hands-on leadership in the design, analysis, and development of highly documented, testable, and reusable APIs. The role will emphasize solutions architecture, Agile development, and driving organizational change.

Led and managed manage one or more teams responsible for engineering, delivery, and supportDrive one or more game changing technology projects to ensure delivery of banner initiatives and modernization of software engineering practicesUnderstand and partner with United functional and technology leadership teams along with product SMEs to define the end-state vision, goals, and strategy of the product and create multi-year product development strategy and tactical plansShare knowledge and collaborate to manifest effective and innovative solutions to hard problemsEngage, collaborate and partner with stakeholders, technical and business, to understand “what success looks like” and user expectations, and lead the development of solutions that meet functional and technical requirementsAligning with business partners on delivery success criteria and evolve technology solutions to promote reusability and ultimately reduce go-to-market time for technical deliveryProvide delivery estimates and business case updates to support overall performance metrics and goals, monthly initiative status reporting and quarterly planningIdentify technical obstacles early and work closely with the team to find creative solutionsResponsible for escalating, assisting and follow-through on resolution of issues related to delivery of technology solutionsEnsure best practices for SRE, DevOps, and Agile methodologies are implemented, and continuous improvements are madeEnsure adherence to code scanning and other security protocols are adhered to during development and releaseEmpower, coach, and develop team membersPromote a culture of fun and learning. Establish team and individual’s goals including performance reviews and career and performance plans, celebrate successesPerform short and long-term resource planning to ensure the appropriate capacity and skills are available to meet goals and schedulesAssess and recommend improvements to the organization structure, roles, and responsibilitiesQualifications

Required 

Bachelor's degreeComputer Science, Information Technology, Business, or related field preferred7+ years of relevant experience in software engineering, developer productivity, and/or architectureExperience in common architecture frameworks such as Microservices, API managementExperience in designing or building applications using AWS (or Azure or GCP) cloud architecture & services and support of highly available and resilient multi-region platforms Understanding of system architecture principles, including the ability to design scalable and reliable solutionsLeadership experience and the ability to guide and inspire a teamA mindset for continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practicesAdvanced technical and business knowledge in software development life cycle, quality, project management and other related disciplines/processesWell versed in Agile, DevOps, and SRE frameworks and practicesAbility to remain enthusiastic while navigating extensive bureaucracy and red tapeMust be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorshipSuccessful completion of interview required to meet job qualificationReliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

Master's degreeCertifications in relevant technologies such as AWSPractical experience in developing and architecting highly integrated, high volume commercial APIs is highly valuedLeadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders
The base pay range for this role is $137,275.00 to $178,670.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
