Senior Manager, Security Engineering
What You'll Do Avalara is looking for a Senior Manager of Deployment Security to lead an engineering team focused on securing our cloud-native infrastructure and computer environments. You will be responsible for platform-wide initiatives that enforce secure-by-design principles across our CI/CD workflows, and runtime workloads. You will collaborate with product engineering, platform teams, and other security stakeholders to drive automation, implement scalable guardrails, and proactively reduce deployment and infrastructure risks across our public cloud environments. This role is ideal for someone who combines deep technical knowledge in cloud and application security with a strong track record of collaborative leadership and cross-functional influence. This will report to the VP of Product Security. This is a remote opportunity. #LI-Remote This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. What Your Responsibilities Will Be You will lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team of security engineers focused on securing Avalara's cloud infrastructure, platform, and SaaS services. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and direction to staff and Engineering teams. Develop Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and container scanning tooling to support secure CI/CD processes. Own the deployment and operational maturity of Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) solutions to monitor configuration risks in public cloud. Drive the implementation of Privileged Access Management (PAM) and identity governance controls in Avalara's cloud platform. Provide expert guidance on threat modelling, vulnerability management, and security best practices across all areas of SDLC to Engineering. Manage the execution of complex, multi-team security projects with clear milestones, metrics, and outcomes. What You'll Need to be Successful Bachelor's or Masters in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field Minimum of 12 years work experience, including 5 years in cloud or infrastructure security Minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership role Expertise in cloud platform security (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI), container security, service mesh and IaC technologies Experience designing and integrating security tooling into CI/CD pipelines and SDLC workflows Development background using Golang and Python Pay Range Details The base pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations. Colorado $185,800-$306,600 (annually) Washington $185,800-$338,800 (annually) California $185,800-$371,100 (annually) NYC $205,400-$371,100 (annually) The pay range above is the general base pay range for you in the state listed. Your actual salary/wage may be based on several factors, such as geographic location, candidate experience and qualifications, market and business considerations. This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on company performance, depending on the terms of the applicable plan and your role.
