Senior Manager, Engineering Finance

Job Summary:

We are seeking a strategic, results-oriented Senior Manager of Finance to partner with our Engineering organization and lead financial planning, analysis, and business support across complex programs and R&D initiatives. This critical role drives the development of cutting-edge aerospace and defense technologies by ensuring financial rigor, regulatory compliance, optimal resource allocation (utilization), and cost efficiency. You will also lead and mentor a high-performing team of finance professionals, delivering exceptional financial insights while cultivating talent and operational excellence.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Serve as the primary finance business partner to the Engineering leadership team. Provide strategic financial insights to support decision-making on program investments, technology roadmaps, and cost management. Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasting, budgeting, and long-range planning for the Engineering function. Analyze actuals vs. forecast, identify drivers of variances, and recommend corrective actions. Develop models to assess engineering labor efficiency & utilization, indirect cost and allocations, and capital utilization. Partner with program finance teams to monitor engineering contributions to key customer contracts (e.g., earned value management, and indirect rate impacts). Support EVMS and compliance with DOD cost accounting standards (CAS) and FAR regulations where applicable. Track IR&D (Independent Research and Development), Sustaining and B&P (Bid & Proposal)spending and align it with business priorities and allowable recovery. Drive financial process improvements to enhance transparency and timeliness of data and reporting. Standardize dashboards, KPIs, and financial reviews for engineering leadership. Manage, mentor, and develop a small team of finance analyst supporting the Engineering function. Provide leadership that drives accountability, collaboration, and professional growth within the team. Oversee workload distribution, performance management, and ongoing skills development. Ensure compliance with internal controls and industry regulations. Support make/buy decisions, ROI analysis, and engineering capital investment prioritization.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field Ideally 8+ years of progressive finance experience supporting engineering or R&D functions. Strong analytical and modeling experience Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, CostPoint) and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) Proven ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and lead through change

Preferred Qualifications:

MBA or CPA preferred Aerospace & Defense industry experience required; understanding of DoD contracts, cost structures, and government compliance standards is essential Familiarity with government cost recovery mechanisms (e.g., IR&D, cost-sharing) Ability to translate complex technical program data into actionable financial insights Experience working in a matrixed organization with both commercial and defense segments

Phoenix, AZ Andover, MA Torrance or Cypress, CA Hudson, NH Other Mercury Systems location

This role is Hybrid, and offers a 9/80 work schedule.  Enjoy every other Friday off!

 

 

Salary Transparency for CA:

Full-Time Equivalent Annual Salary Range: $126,500 - $227,700 for a Sr. Prin. / Sr. Manager at Torrance, CA or Cypress, CA

The disclosed salary range is a general guideline for Mercury team members employed at the job level at the location listed above and does not include overtime for eligible hourly employees.
