Senior Manager, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Talent

The opportunity 

As Senior Manager, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), you will build on a solid foundation and lead initiatives that support a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace for all OTPP employees. This role focuses on improving employee engagement through DEI strategies and talent-focused partnerships, aiming to foster a culture where everyone feels valued and supported. 

Who you'll work with 

Reporting to the Director, Talent Acquisition, you will join our Talent team (part of broader People & Culture (P&C)) during an exciting time of transformation as we support our Teachers Forward enterprise strategy. As a key leader with reach across the organization, you will collaborate and act as a strategic advisor and subject matter expert to a wide variety of partners both internally and externally. As a true culture champion, you will partner with Employee Resource Group (ERG) Leads and all employees to amplify our commitment and ensure operationalization of our DEI strategies and programs. 

What you'll do 

Manage ERGs and partner with global senior leadership to lead the DEI Council in order to shape, advise and execute best in class inclusive strategies and frameworks in support of the enterprise DEI strategy, including aligning it with strategic talent priorities (e.g. Women in Investments, Accessibility). Further, partner with relevant P&C Business Partners to support specific initiatives aligned to regional, divisional or departmental talent plans and priorities.  

Ensure ERGs adhere to mandate, structure, governance and interact with their business leads from a place of supportive partnership. This includes managing ERG spend, succession planning and supporting the development and execution of ERG events and initiatives throughout the year as well as coordinating and hosting monthly ERG Lead meetings. 

Plan for and manage DEI spending within the broader P&C Talent budget. 

Lead the organization and execution of large-scale events related to organizational days of significance (e.g. Pride, International Women’s Day, Black History Month, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, etc.) in partnership with our ERGs and the marketing and communications team. 

Support operationalization of Indigenous Action Plan (IAP) as required.  

Lead the development and delivery of the DEI Education strategy, in partnership with the Director, Leadership and Learning, across the enterprise globally.  

Influence, coach and develop DEI capability in leaders across Ontario Teachers’ by mobilizing colleagues and the business to build accountability with different communities. 

Identify opportunities for DEI differentiation (or gaps) from industry Peers in support of our Teachers’ Forward strategy and strong Employee Value Proposition (EVP) and lead the development and launch of those strategies/initiatives in partnership with the appropriate Subject Matter Experts and Centers of Expertise. 

Collaborate with internal P&C and corporate teams to drive DEI across all talent programs (e.g. DEI business plans, Equitable Talent Guidelines, inclusive hiring checklist, Inclusive hiring 101 sessions).   

Act as brand ambassador to support, and build on, an inclusive culture through authentic communications and training, demonstrating outstanding interpersonal skills and understanding multiple perspectives. Includes external speaking engagements, engaging DEI pension peer network and other external organizations/leaders (with talent focus). 

Support quarterly and annual enterprise-wide DEI reporting (Peakon, Workforce Demographics, Board reporting, Annual Reporting, Risk reporting) as well as ad hoc reporting with the support of a P&C Business Partner Specialist 

Participate as DEI lead and advisor in several external talent focused partnerships, such as VersaFi, Catalyst, Specialisterne, Pride at Work Canada, etc. and drive increased awareness and engagement of employees. 

Manage the DEI and ERG intranet pages and produce enterprise monthly DEI Roundup newsletter and ongoing management and oversight of the DEI ON TEN page and ERG pages.  

Serve as a subject matter expert on DEI issues, providing guidance and support to employees and management. 

Support ad-hoc strategic Enterprise programs, priorities and reporting as needed (ex. AI Governance and Enablement Committee, D160 Advisor) 
 

​What you'll need 

A passion for equity, inclusion and diversity along with a solid understanding of financial services talent and related challenges. 

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Human Resources or Human Capital Consulting with solid knowledge and proven track record of developing and implementing successful DEI initiatives, anti-racism related initiatives, and training programs. 

Track record of success in leading, influencing and executing on significant multi-year strategic organizational DEI change initiatives in a global organization. 

Bachelor’s degree (required) with formal education and training in DEI preferred 

Strong understanding of DEI principles, best practices, and legal requirements. 

Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. 

Ability to analyze data and generate actionable insights to drive DEI initiatives.  

A DEI champion who lives by our values (Inclusive, Performance-driven, Courageous, Agile and Curious), and can influence change and positive behaviours. 

Able to quickly build trust with colleagues through effective listening, openness and transparency. 

Comfortable with asking difficult questions, accepting direct feedback and demonstrating perseverance and grit. 

Ability to travel as required.
