The opportunity:

This senior internal communications role is a strategic partner, primarily supporting the North America Regional Vice President of Human Resources. The role involves managing and executing internal and external executive communications for the VP, as well as leading large-scale regional campaigns that span across the entire North American footprint. These campaigns include critical initiatives such as benefits enrollment, performance management programs, and other HR-driven projects. 

 

The ideal candidate will bring extensive internal communications experience, with a proven ability to work closely with senior leadership (including the C-suite) and effectively advise on strategic messaging. The role also requires a strong capacity to execute complex projects and initiatives with precision and agility. 


Reporting to the Director, Communications & Chief of Staff, this position offers a unique opportunity to influence how HR initiatives are communicated across the region and to elevate leadership presence through compelling storytelling.


How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:


Serve as a proactive and trusted strategic advisor to the North America Regional Vice President of Human Resources, supporting executive communications (both internal and external) and helping craft impactful messages that elevate their leadership presence.  Lead the development and execution of large regional communications campaigns that support key HR initiatives such as benefits enrollment, performance management, talent development, and change management efforts.  Manage and oversee the implementation of communication projects across the region, ensuring they are delivered on time, resonate with audiences, and align with organizational goals.  Collaborate with HR and other functional teams to create tailored messaging that educates, engages, and connects employees across all levels and geographies within North America.  Provide strategic counsel to senior HR leadership on communication best practices, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with corporate messaging.  Act as project manager for complex communication initiatives, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors to ensure seamless execution.  Develop, manage, and evaluate comprehensive communication plans, leveraging various channels including face-to-face, digital, print, and video, to maximize reach and impact.  Draft, edit, and review communication materials to maintain high standards of clarity, tone, and effectiveness.

 

What you need to succeed:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing/Public Relations, or a related field.  10+ years of extensive internal communications experience, including working closely with senior leaders, particularly within HR functions.  Proven track record in managing executive internal and external communications, especially for leadership figures in regional or global organizations.   Experience in leading large-scale regional campaigns and initiatives, such as benefits enrollment, performance reviews, and change management programs.   Strong storytelling, writing, editing, and messaging skills tailored to diverse audiences.  Ability to build relationships at all organizational levels and influence senior leaders with strategic counsel.  Skilled project manager capable of executing multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.  HR experience is a plus, providing insight into HR programs and employee engagement strategies.  Highly adaptable, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
