The Senior Learning Specialist should have a minimum of 3 years of experience with Graduate Medical Education (GME).

Our Graduate Medical Education department has an essential educational need to support residents/fellows who are academically struggling by providing individualized study plans, time management techniques, and evidence-based learning strategies.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position, located in the Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME), develops and maintains a program promoting resident and fellow academic success and retention. The position provides individual and group consultation on academic learning strategies and methods, evaluates existing programs/services, and institutes effective strategies for the academic assessment of resident and fellows in accordance with accreditation requirements for residents and fellows participating in any College of Medicine-Phoenix training program. 


CORE FUNCTIONS

1. Manages academic intervention and advises residents and fellows on ways to enhance learning and performance. Counsels and assists residents/fellows with assessing, identifying, and resolving academic deficiencies.

2.Develops and presents workshops for individual programs as needed, collaborates with other faculty and staff to accomplish program goals.

3. Collaborates with program directors to develop and modify individualized learning plans for residents/fellows as needed.

4. Provides individual appointments to assist residents/fellows with organization, time management, stress management, studying, and test-taking strategies.

5. Works with resident/fellow program directors to identify academic needs related to medical knowledge acquisition, interpersonal skills and communication, practice-based learning and improvement, and professionalism.

6. Reviews and suggests enhancements to learner assessment tools to enhance the written communication of formative and summative feedback. 

7. Develops and oversees a coaching program to connect residents/fellows with trained faculty from other programs.

8. Manages data collection and prepares reports and analyses to identify progress, adverse trends, and recommendations for short- and long-term strategies.

9. Participates on committees or work groups relevant to the duties and responsibilities of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

Master’s degree in education, higher education, educational psychology, or related field.

Minimum of three years’ experience with learning skill development, diagnostic and prescriptive advising.

Experience working with advance graduate and professional students.

Knowledge of teaching principles, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of educational and training resources.

Ability to effectively communicate with residents, fellows, staff, and faculty.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Demonstrated experience in medical education, particularly medical students and/or graduate medical education.

Demonstrated experience in program development, coordination and delivery of effective learning services, teaching principles, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles.

Understanding of, and commitment to, inclusive excellence.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
