Senior IT Network Engineer

The Senior IT Network Engineer is responsible for taking care of the infrastructure artifacts which includes designing, implementing, monitoring and managing the local and wide area networks of the enterprise to ensure maximum uptime for users. Ensuring that they maintain consistency along with high-quality guidelines and secure standards, the incumbent in this role updates the technical standards and strategic technical roadmaps through the design of network configurations, installation, documentation and management of new networks and maintenance & upgrade of existing systems as necessary. As a senior position within the IT Engineering team, the Senior IT Network Engineer is accountable for connectivity and processes critical to the successful operation of enterprise IT, as well as guiding less experienced team members with their domain knowledge.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Designs and implements new network solutions and/or improves the efficiency of current networks.

Installs, configures and supports network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAPs, DNS and DHCP.

Procures network equipment and manages subcontractors involved with network installation. Ensures smooth and proper functionality of the network system.

Configures firewalls, routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security.

Maximizes network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting.

Arranges scheduled upgrades.

Investigates faults in the network.

Updates network equipment to the latest firmware releases.

Reports network status to key stakeholders.

Develops network engineering policies, procedures and operations that include network programmability.

Oversees fault diagnosis and rectification. Examines network capacity and implements network tools. Recognizes and resolves escalated network hardware and software problems.

Collaborates with the systems administration and other key IT teams on issues such as inter-connectivity, storage, backup solutions and on-demand virtualized servers.

Participates in the IT Engineering on-call rotation.

Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Expert understanding of network design and setup

Expert understanding of configuring network devices via a CLI or terminal interface

Expert understanding of managing data facilities and familiarity with their design

Understanding of client/server and web applications

Understanding of TCP/IP routing and protocols

Advanced knowledge of network protocols

Advanced knowledge of various network troubleshooting tools

Advanced computer skills in a Windows PC/Server LAN environment

Basic understanding of scripting and automation

Possess the ability and willingness to quickly adjust priorities as business needs shift

High level of conceptualization, analytical, logic, technical and reasoning skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an eagerness to provide outstanding customer service to internal and external clients

Excellent problem-solving skills

Expertise skill in Microsoft Office Suite products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, plus a variety of other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and presentation software

Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally and nationwide up to 10% of the time

Spoken and written fluency in English

This job requires use and exercise of independent judgment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:

BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related field OR additional experience above the minimum will be considered in lieu of the required education on a year-for-year basis required

A minimum of 4 years’ experience providing network support in a corporate environment required

A minimum of 6 years’ experience working within a dedicated, multi-tier technical team

At least 1 core network certification (CCNA, JNCIA, etc.) or higher required

Experience with programming and/or scripting in a network environment

Experience working on a project team and managing project deliverables

Experience using a service desk platform (ITSM or trouble ticket system)
