Senior Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) (4510)at SMX(View all jobs) (https://www.smxtech.com/careers/) Clarksburg, WV We are seeking a **Senior Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE)** to provide secure architecture support and engineering oversight for mission-critical systems operated by a **Federal Law Enforcement client** . This senior technical role will drive the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of secure system solutions spanning cloud and on-premise environments. The ideal candidate blends deep knowledge of NIST RMF, cloud security engineering, and DevSecOps principles, supporting system accreditation and compliance throughout the development lifecycle. This position is hybrid supporting a Clarksburg, WV program and requires an active Top-Secret clearance. **Essential Duties & Responsibilities:** + Serve as security engineering lead for over 30 information systems and services, ensuring conformance with federal policy, secure design principles, and **NIST RMF** + Collaborate with ISSOs, developers, and solution architects to design **security architectures** that meet mission requirements while satisfying risk and compliance controls. + Perform control selection, decomposition, and allocation of security functionality at the component and boundary level. + Guide systems through security authorization boundaries, documentation (SSPPs, SRTMs), and control mappings based on **NIST SP 800-53/37** . + Develop detailed security design artifacts, participate in system engineering reviews, and ensure controls remain effective across system modifications. + Analyze architectural tradeoffs, recommend secure design alternatives, and prepare formal security risk assessments. + Brief technical stakeholders on security architecture decisions, risks, and emerging trends in cloud and hybrid technologies. + Support secure implementation of **CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code** , and cloud-native architectures in **AWS/Azure** + Participate in SAFe Agile ceremonies as a security SME embedded across teams. **Required Skills & Experience** + In-depth experience with **NIST RMF** , FISMA, and government security control frameworks + Expertise designing secure solutions in **AWS, Azure** , and hybrid architectures + Strong familiarity with DevSecOps tooling, **CI/CD pipelines** , and secure cloud automation (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) + Technical understanding of **zero trust architectures** , secure enclaves, microsegmentation, and boundary defense + Hands-on experience with GRC systems (e.g., **Xacta** , **JCAM** ) and documentation support for SSPPs and POA&Ms + Active TS clearance required. **Desired Skills & Experience** + **CISSP** or equivalent high-level certification required; **Cloud Security cert (e.g., AWS Security Specialty, Azure SC-100)** strongly preferred + Experience leading secure design reviews in support of Federal Law Enforcement or Intelligence systems + Familiarity with **Scaled Agile (SAFe)** frameworks and program increment planning from a security perspective + Ability to brief senior stakeholders and document findings into formal system security deliverables and risk memos **Application Deadline:** 9-5-2025 \#CJPOST #LI-SA The SMX salary determination process takes into account a number of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills, education and certifications.
