NEW Senior Government Affairs Manager
Based at our Maidenhead offices (hybrid working 3 days office, 2 days flexible) Reporting to Head of Government Affairs, UKJob Overview
As our Senior Government Affairs Manager you'll have a deep understanding of the NHS and medical landscape, pharmaceutical business operations, market access opportunities and challenges and policies which shape a framework around life science products. You are able to demonstrate a strategic approach to shape and execute multi-stakeholder Government Affairs (GA) strategies in full alignment with AbbVie brand and corporate objectives with a focus on positively shaping the environment to support patient access to medicines and building AbbVie’s external profile with relevant stakeholders while delivering our business priorities.
Working with both internal and external stakeholders you will have excellent communications skills and a proven ability to influence from a ‘patient first’ perspective, together with a track record of developing innovative and inventive approaches to shape external policy and engage stakeholders.
You will join the UK Government Affairs team at an exciting time. With a strong medicines pipeline across key therapy areas but a challenging commercial environment and shifting policy landscape, the value of the Government Affairs team is being felt more than ever at AbbVie, both within the affiliate and above country.
Key Responsibilities
Results-oriented operating style and a proven ability to collaborate with peers and colleagues at all levels of an organisation, across functions, businesses, and geographies.Development and implementation of stakeholder engagement and reputation enhancement to positively impact AbbVie’s overall reputation and ensure these trust-based relationships allow for robust and open dialogueProvide insight and expertise regarding the political and healthcare environment and anticipate the trends that will impact our business, communicating the implications and challenging the business to respond accordinglyEnsure AbbVie actively contributes and is in a position to lead key initiatives identified as a priority demonstrating thought leadership that leads to identifiable changeLead the execution of AbbVie’s GA plans ensuring above brand advocacy is aligned with AbbVie therapeutic area focusSuccessfully work in a matrix operational structure, building consensus on GA activities and contribute beyond the function to improve business strategyEfficiently and compliantly manage any external agencies or vendors, ensuring good budget management and identifying opportunities to maximise AbbVie resources furtherDevelop integrated strategies across External Affairs that have application across multiple channelsCoordinate AbbVie response to key government consultations and track outcomesQualifications
Experience
Direct experience of working in a parliamentary, political, advocacy or legislative role, preferably from a previous healthcare or life sciences focused role, although others will be consideredDemonstrated success in the influencing of legislation and policyIn-depth knowledge of the UK health care system, including the National Health Service, Department of Health and Social Care, Business and Trade, and OLSDemonstrated experience in building relationships with health care policy makers politicians, patient stakeholders and other influencers.Competencies
Strong understanding of Government, Whitehall, healthcare and the NHSExcellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) to develop and convey strategies, policies, and action plans succinctlyStrong decision-making and tactical skills to develop broad strategy and policy, options, and recommendations to address issues expeditiouslyProven ability to coordinate internally within an organisation and externally to promote AbbVie’s position with urgencyDrive, enthusiasm and the ability to manage uncertainty whilst challenging strategyAbility to inspire confidence among senior leadership and external stakeholdersCompetencies in managing integrated multi-stakeholder and multi-channel programmesComfortable with representing AbbVie in the public arena and with all levels of governmentAdditional Information
