This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.As part of a small, hard-working, and accomplished team of experts you will lead the design, develop, and test of fluid systems for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of fluid systems design, operation, and project management. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:
Engage in the entire design cycle of fluid subsystems including conceptual design, thermo-fluid modeling, structural layout and analysis, integration, test and mission supportCollaborate with many internal team members to define requirements, dependencies, and schedule needs associated with delivering coordinated fluid systemsLead team-based identification, decomposition, and estimation of work scope for full lifecycle fluids hardware developmentLead project schedule, resources, and cost – present status of effort, including risks, variances, and recovery plans to program managementIntegrate hardware schedules with program and vehicle schedulesWork to continuously improve the team processes and manage team assignments to move quickly while meeting human space flight standardsContinuously track all hardware technical performance measures to ensure the development team is meeting its defined performance goalsPerform procurement, integration support, and discrepancy resolutionCoordinate fluid component and subsystem level testing including test planning, test execution, data reduction, and analysisMinimum Qualifications:
Minimum of B.S. degree in mechanical, or aerospace engineering and (7) seven years of proven experience in detail design / development of aerospace or equivalent-type fluid systems and project management through complete product life cycleResponsible Engineer designation to lead a system with multiple designers working under their directionSolid understanding of fluid components such as valves, regulators, and fittingsKnowledge of fabrication, integration processes and quality control relative to tubes/piping and machined componentsSolid understanding of materials and treatmentsExperience leading at multi-person development project, managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, cost, and communicationsExperience and ability to work independently on rapid development programsSolid understanding of component design such as valves, actuators, mechanisms, bellows, tubes, latches and pressurized components, aerospace hardwareExperience with pneumatic fluids systems and component designWorking knowledge of fabrication, integration processes, and quality control techniques relative to tubes, machined components, and welded hardwareExperience with stack-ups, linear and radial and types of fitsExperience with static and multifaceted seals and spring seal designExperience with hydraulic fluid systems and component designExperience with pneumatic fluids systems and component designWorking knowledge of aerospace materials and treatmentsPreferred Qualifications:
10+ years of proven experience in the design of fluid systems and/or mechanismsExperience as responsible engineer guiding a team of engineers through entirety of Product Life Cycle on Multiple Complex Programs.Experience with launch vehicle or ground cryogenic and pressure systems and/or complex mechanisms including Umbilical Release Mechanisms.Supplier management standard methodologies involving sourcing componentsExperience testing pressurized systems including water, pneumatics, hydraulics, and cryogenic propellantsProficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E and Pro/E Piping) and PDM (Windchill)Knowledge in the use of FEA analysis tools (ANSYS preferred)Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)Culture Statement
