Mobility & Convenience: We have a network of over 1500 retail sites across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) split between company owned, dealer and distributor sites. With a retail team of over 6000 employees to deliver exceptional customer service and sales performance along with safe and reliable operations.
Purpose of the role
This role is a key finance position in the ANZ region. It is a finance role in the Customers & Products (C&P) team providing key business partnering to the respective Entity and Vice President (VP) Finance for Asia Pacific. The role will ensure the delivery of performance and growth of the entity. It will deliver finance priorities, drive performance, a culture of control and compliance, and leading interventions in business decision-making.
The role will work closely and partner with the VP Customer and VP Operations to drive business performance in economic and strategic terms and is responsible for leading interventions where required to ensure strategic objectives are met.
Key Accountabilities
Supporting business performance assessment in partnership with the respective entity. This can range from understanding all cost line impacts on retail site operations, facilitating the effective allocation of capital, development of business plans, including transformation activities and coordination of business performance interventions to ensure a consistent delivery between strategic aspirations, operational forecasts and delivered outcomes.
Delivering finance priorities within ANZ’s businesses, driving performance through regular performance reviews and meetings, a culture of control and compliance, and leading interventions in business decision-making.
Work collaboratively with the wider Finance organisation that will be based both locally and globally through offshore finance operations teams (internally Finance Business Technology – FBT). Providing context and guidance to other finance and business teams, including supporting application of global policy requirements and ad hoc requests. This will also include active involvement in the monthly and quarterly business performance review meetings with the customer and operations teams and broader ANZ business.
Investment Governance & Economic Evaluation. Input into investment case preparation, functional assurance and modelling as required. Support key commercial decision making in investment opportunities. Support modelling to project long-term growth, accounting for factors that will impact performance including review of analysis and commentary delivered by the FBT teams. Ensure investment opportunities are appropriately prioritised.
Working closely with the ANZ business and Embedded Finance teams to understand risks and provide guidance and direction for mitigating risks in accordance with group risk framework.
Providing deep functional retail expertise to support specialist areas, including technical accounting, treasury, strategic planning and finance transformation.
A member of the Asia Pacific finance leadership team and entity leadership team. Supports the group and regional finance objectives and plays a key role in the capability development of the finance organisation.
Line management of a small high performing team, but also part of a wider finance virtual network.
Essential Skills and Experience
Elevated level of business and commercial acumen across the core retail business including fuels and retail convenience business. Understanding the key dynamics / value drivers / competitive landscape within the fuels and convenience retail business.
Strong finance skills – potentially supported by appropriate professional qualifications.
Over 5 years operating in a management position in the retail sector.
Elevated level of understanding of the external stakeholders and regulatory frameworks within which bp operates.
Leadership skills with the ability to build capability, influence beyond formal reporting lines and coach a diverse group of finance professionals in the FBT teams.
Directive, providing clear expectations and effective support.
Able to cut through key issues and challenges and rapidly resolve with the right level of buy-in and support both from the FBT and business teams.
Relationship building - Cross cultural sensitivity; a true team player, with an ability to partner across multiple dimensions and stakeholder groups, build strong relationships based on trust and honest discussion.
Ownership – taking responsibility for driving future decision making, value creation.
Influencing and communication – explaining complex finance terminology in a way that is easy to understand
