Senior Fact-Checking Producer - Reuters
This 12 month fixed term contract based in Barcelona.
Reuters is looking for a senior journalist with strong reporting and writing skills to join its dynamic fact-checking team. This position involves identifying and fact-checking viral content relating to global misinformation topics and establishing the facts behind them, with a particular focus on the UK and Ireland. The role also requires editing to ensure quality and standards are maintained. The post will also support the Reuters fact-checking team in writing misinformation trend reports and fact-check articles.
The producer will be part of a hybrid work model and based in our Barcelona newsroom.
About the Role
As a Senior Fact-Checking Producer at Reuters, you will:
Work on an exciting project that aims to tackle misinformation on social media. You’ll have a direct impact on how information is consumed across a variety of social media platforms and will be a key stakeholder in setting the record straight.
Identify stories that require fact-checking to address the spread of misinformation on a global scale (with a particular focus on the UK and Ireland).
Proactively write and edit fact checks while fostering a positive, collaborative and inclusive work environment
Enforce Reuters’ editorial and ethical standards, adhering to style, guidelines and policies laid out by the Reuters Trust Principles and the Reuters Handbook of Journalists
Show attention to detail by ensuring stories meet Reuters’ standards for accuracy, speed, balance and clarity
Identify emerging trends and misinformation on various platforms, such as Facebook, X, TikTok and LinkedIn, among others.
Explore latest digital verification techniques and tools
Communicate fact-check findings in a manner that is clear, concise, and free from bias
Work closely with the global Reuters newsroom during breaking news when required
About You
You're a fit for the role of Senior Fact-Checking Producer at Reuters if you:
Be deeply familiar with social media as a news-gathering tool and track trends as to how misinformation travels online.
Demonstrate an analytical and unbiased approach to new stories and be comfortable researching a range of topics independently.
Show a proven interest in covering current affairs and misinformation.
Have demonstrable reporting and news-writing experience. Prior experience as a fact checker is by no means prerequisite.
Demonstrate experience editing under tight deadlines and sharing constructive feedback.
Show a proven interest in covering European affairs and global misinformation, particularly Britain and Ireland.
Show sharp news judgement.
Be able to identify emerging trends and misinformation.
Write crisp and clean copy in English. Fluency in any other European language is a plus.
Be a collaborative team player, comfortable working occasional weekend shifts when required.
If you have any prior experience in social media newsgathering, OSINT or fact-checking, we'd love to hear more about this in your application.
