Job Title: Senior Fact Check Researcher
Your New Role…
A critical part of the editorial review operation, the Fact Check Senior Researcher works closely with reporting and show teams across all CNN platforms. The role involves developing and reviewing stories for accuracy, fairness, and context, as well as providing research assistance for both short and long-term projects.
The position will collaborate closely with Fact Check’s team of editors and be expected to assist in researching, writing, and editing for CNN’s linear and digital platforms. The Senior Researcher also assists senior editors in making sure stories are assigned appropriately and expeditiously and plays an important role in helping to train and schedule incoming researchers, news associates, and interns.
The Senior Researcher will occasionally be involved in special projects that require more in-depth research. The working environment is fast-paced and demanding; researchers are expected to get the best out of dozens of research tools and to be aggressive in finding new sources of information. They are an integral part of a team that ensures CNN’s reporting across all platforms is accurate, that our storytelling is sharp, and that pieces are vetted and approved as quickly as possible.
Your Role Accountabilities…
Verify factual information for CNN’s digital and linear platforms, including documentaries and some affiliate reportsHelp manage the workflow of department editors and work closely with them to provide feedback on storiesProvide training for incoming researchers, news associates, and internsKeep current with latest research tools and collaborate closely with CNN’s Editorial Research library personnelWork with editors to make sure research team is appropriately scheduled throughout the dayPrepare background information and conduct deep research for special projects and during rolling coverage or breaking newsMaintain detailed, up-to-date knowledge of the day’s news and current events, with the ability to find and marshal reliable sources and communicate effectively with reporters, producers, and Fact Check editorsQualifications & Experience…
College degree and/or relevant journalism work experience3+ years experiences editorial experience in a newsroom setting with research and writing responsibilitiesExcellent research chops – finding information quickly under tight deadlines.Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, the knack to find answers to very specific questionsPassion for the news and a general sense of intellectual curiosityAbility to work in a fast pace 24/7 environmentPosition is required to work in person at one of our locations in the United States.How We Get Things Done…
