What We’re Looking For:
Michael Baker International is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Planning & Grants Strategist to lead and support complex infrastructure and transportation projects in our Great Lakes region. The ideal candidate for this role will possess a strong background in environmental compliance, planning, interagency coordination, and grant acquisition, along with strong leadership experience in both public and private sectors. They will also have a proven track record in NEPA documentation, stakeholder engagement, and federal grant management.

What You’ll Do:
Lead the preparation and review of NEPA documents (CEs, EAs, EISs, RODs) and ensure compliance with federal environmental laws and regulations Provide strategic planning support for transportation and infrastructure projects, including long-range planning, STIP/TIP development, and environmental linkages Manage and mentor multidisciplinary teams on environmental and planning projects Develop and write technical reports, environmental assessments, and planning documents Identify, pursue, and manage federal and state grant opportunities (e.g., RCP, NEVI, TIGER) Provide technical assistance to clients on grant compliance, procurement, and reporting Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies, including FHWA, DOTs, USACE, and others Facilitate public involvement processes, including public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentationsWhat You Need to Succeed:
Master’s degree in a related field 20+ years of relevant experience in environmental planning, NEPA compliance, and transportation project management 10+ years of demonstrated progressive leadership in federal transportation programs, overseeing multidisciplinary teams and strategic initiatives across multiple senior roles Extensive experience managing federal grants and coordinating with non-profits and public agencies Proven expertise in technical writing, including the development of NEPA documents, environmental assessments, planning studies, and grant proposalsCompensation:
The approximate compensation range for this position $104,980 - $163,949 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
