Job Description

AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Environmental Planner professional to join our Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) team in the western US. Our EPP team serves numerous federal and private industry clients, delivering a variety of resource management and energy infrastructure projects.  We specialize in high-visibility complex projects that provide our senior planners with opportunities to grow. This hybrid position may be based out of AECOM's Boulder, CO, Portland, OR or Reno, NV locations.  We will consider candidates in other western regions in the U.S.  

In this role, you will lead project teams to prepare environmental analysis and permitting documents with a particular focus on our growing line of work with renewable energy and transmission developers and federal land management agencies.

The responsibilities of this role would include, but are not limited to:

Work with clients to develop solutions to achieve their goals.Management and preparation of both federal and state environmental documents, as well as management permitting activities for these projectsProject management, including developing and tracking project schedules, budgets, and invoicing, as well as coordination with clients, technical staff, and subconsultants.Serve as a Project Manager on medium- to large-sized environmental compliance projects, particularly high-profile energy infrastructure projects.Oversee the work of early career staff and mentor others.Contribute to marketing and business development, preparation of proposals, and formulating proposal cost estimates.Conduct occasional site visits, research, data collection, and technical writing.Attend and/or present at project and public meetings and assist in preparing meeting materials and compiling meeting results, including PowerPoint presentations, and other materials.Interpret and apply applicable government codes, ordinances, and regulations.Act as a quality verifier for technical work products.Participate in professional associations/events relevant to the industry.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related field.6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in project or task management of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and related federal and state permitting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related field.10+ years’ experience successfully managing project National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and related federal and state permitting.Electrical transmission and renewable energy (e.g., solar, wind, energy storage) experience through preparation of environmental and permitting documents.Experience with western US federal and state planning and resource agencies (e.g., the Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, or other federal land management agencies)Strong individual and collaborative research and analytical abilities.Strong written and oral communication skills, including editing, oversight, and preparation of technical reports.Strong organizational skill, and an ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.Actively participated in management of environmental projects, including client interaction, schedule and budget controls, and invoicing.Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, identifying what needs to be accomplished and regularly completing tasks.Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills to effectively manage tasks and interact with clients, staff and subconsultants.Commitment to perform and work with the highest ethical standards.
