The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is an

The senior environmental coordinator is responsible, as
assigned, for planning, implementing and leading core environmental programs
relating to ecosystem management, including habitat protection, species at
risk, monitoring programs, water quality, contaminated lands, and other environmental
factors. This role
is also responsible for supporting environmental monitoring programs,
supporting environmental aspects of project development and other environmental
issues. Additional activities assigned
to this position may include support and development of related program
activities such as early issues identification, habitat stewardship, air,
noise, and water quality review and management, the development of best
management practices and guidelines, and support for contaminated site
assessment and land management programs. Important aspects of the work include related
communications with internal and external customers and port authority
representation on interagency committees and project-related negotiations.
**What you do:**
+ Assist in the development, implementation andmonitoring of ecosystem management and environmental programs, includingenvironmental certification programs, and programs related to species at riskand invasive species
+ Assist in the development of detailedenvironmental effect mitigation, management plans, and monitoring programs.Provide updates of these plans on an annual basis, using appropriate technicalresources such as representatives of regulatory agencies and specialistconsultants
+ Provide support to the project andenvironmental review of activities, as required, under the VFPA’s EnvironmentPolicy, Project and Environmental Review Policy and Directive, and applicablelegislation. Support and provide input on environmental review and permitreports, environmental conditions and provide environmental related advice asrequired.
+ Support and participate in cross-functionalteams and collaborate with departments on environmental matters, as required.
+ Provide environmental support to port-leddevelopment projects, including for infrastructure and habitat projects
+ Administer environmentalmonitoring programs, mitigation and compensation programs, including selectingand overseeing specialist consultants to support the mitigation programs asrequired. Oversee specialist consultant teams and contribute to their work asrequired. Monitor plan implementationand progress. Tabulate and present monitoring data and assist in the interpretationof its significance, with support from specialist consultants as appropriate. Contributeto the preparation of annual program reviews and reports.
+ Provide contaminated sites support byconducting due diligence assessments for property acquisitions, new leases andlease renewals, and by interpreting reports and studies that present buildingmaterials data and geo-environmental site information, including soil, water,groundwater and sediment quality data
+ Assist in discharging VFPA land managementresponsibilities by providing oversight to VFPA site remediation and managementprojects, field oversight of tenant-responsible site assessment and remediationprojects, and of similar other efforts such as storage tankdecommissioning/removal and excavations in areas suspected of beingcontaminated.
+ Provide VFPA representation at meetings withenvironmental regulatory agencies, community, Indigenous groups, and otherstakeholders and, where appropriate, assist in facilitating competingpriorities to ensure VFPA interests are met.
+ Carry out or assist with data collectionprojects including for soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment sampling,and biophysical site surveys.
+ Contribute to the development andimplementation of programs, initiatives, guidelines, and policies related toecosystem and environmental management, best practices and other similarprograms, both internally and to partnered external programs.
**What you bring:**
+ Bachelor ofScience degree in biology, environmental sciences, or environmental engineeringor other acceptable university degree
+ A minimum ofthree years of experience in ecosystem management, aquatics biology, environmentalor construction environmental monitoring, biophysical survey science, or otherdirectly related experience.
+ Must haveexcellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office tools.
+ Mustbe a self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal, communication,technical writing, and negotiation skills.
+ Thisperson will demonstrate good judgment, professionalism and tact with a varietyof internal and external audiences, including customers, tenants, governmentsand Indigenous groups.
+ Mustenjoy working within a team environment; must handle pressure well and havestrong critical thinking skills.
+ Must be organized, work wellindependently, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines.

**Workingenvironment:** Normal office environment with occasional exposure to industrial
waterfront and construction sites including contaminated sites and requiring
personal protective equipment. Regular participation in off-site meetings with
external parties and the public. Required to work off hours occasionally.
