Roles and Responsibilities
Lead structural design, analysis, and testing of mechanical components and systems with a wide variety of material compositions (e.g., metals, composites, additive or other complex multi-material structures).Carry out project planning and execution from system-level architecture through detailed design and manufacturing. Define requirements and execute design and analysis tasks using proprietary and commercial FEA solvers, analysis systems and databases to predict the structural response of mechanical components and systems. Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing multidisciplinary team. Support team members' technical and professional growth through regular feedback, coaching, and goal setting. Establish mechanisms for proactive communication to ensure transparency and alignment.Foster collaboration within the project team, working closely with support functions and/or external suppliers to achieve project deliverables.Participate in project and technical reviews, and prepare presentations, reports, and publications for the engineering community, GE Aerospace business, and/or external agencies.Foster a culture rooted in GE Aerospace behaviors: respect for people, continuous improvement, and customer drivenOwn the development and maintenance of technology roadmaps and demonstrate accountability for a pipeline of funded projectsWork with internal and external collaborators in developing new project proposals and initiatives. Provide technical guidance and mentoring across the group to grow overall technical capability and product knowledge in technical focus areas.Interact with senior external personnel to align research and development efforts with expectations. Represent GE Aerospace as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.Required Qualifications
PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Applied Mechanics with a strong background in structural design and analysis with a minimum of 7 years of industrial experience or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Applied Mechanics with a strong background in structural design and analysis and a minimum of 10 years of industrial experience.Strong technical skills in structural mechanics and finite element methods.Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills in a global team environment.Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.Extensive experience and high proficiency with commercial FEA packages such as Ansys and LS-DYNA (including advanced meshing tools and non-linear analysis). Extensive experience with product design constraints, manufacturing techniques and material processing selections for mechanical components and systems.Experience in conceiving, developing, and carrying out experiments and transferring component level tests into full scale hardware solutions.Strong analytical skills.Clear evidence of passion, innovation, and creativity. Execution mindset and sense of urgency.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Experience with composite design and progressive damage simulations. Experience with vibration and structural dynamics.Experience with parametric, feature-based geometric modeling, hands-on experience with commercial CAD packages (e.g., NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo). Experience in analysis, fabrication and testing of composite structures. Experience with composite and lattice architecture design and optimization.The base pay range for this position is $100,000 - $205,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on Oct 31st, 2025.
